S4 E5 Julie and Randall have progressed with storywalking more than we know somewhere between E4 and 5. They know MIY is watching/ eavesdropping and their bickering is for show

One theory I developed while watching this latest episode is that Julie has already story walked to the point where she sees MIY become Sophia off-screen (they’ll reveal this when the time is right) and her and Randall bickering at the clinic where Sophia is lurking and pleased at the infighting is all for show. They were almost projecting their voices like they wanted to be heard. Like stage actors would in a play.

I believe Julie has already heard the MIY speech, which means she knows his MO is to have the town tear themselves apart. Because we’re dealing with timey-wimey stuff, it’s not impossible that she’s jumped around a bit between last episode and the 5th. I believe chess and game theory is a major theme throughout the series and team julie and randall are three steps ahead of MIY/sophia.

As far as we know MIY knew he’s been made as MIY by Julie, he just doesn’t know if she’s already obtained that info via storywalking in the present timeline. But regardless she will have eventually, which is why he had to change facades. What he may not know however, is that he has also been made as Sophia. But Julie has advanced, which means she was able to be more discrete by the time she witnesses the shapeshifting chapter. I believe she uses Sophia’s old glasses (which they have made a point for her to swap out in the storage room) and storywalked to the point at which he shapeshifted.

* I just don’t think Sophia abandoning her broken glasses isn’t going to serve Julie’s story walking in some way. That was Sophia’s blunder. Now Julie has her bookmark (Sophia’s chapter).

One observation I had that I found odd, is that we’ve never been shown the theatre stage before, at least not so intentionally. I think the reason they were arguing in front of what looked like some sort of Halloween themed high school theatre production is because they knew MIY/sophia was observing and they were PERFORMING.

[New York] Why are people so obsessed with what “unemployed” people do all day? Like what do you do? Develop blood clots at a desk? Stare at a screen until your eyes run out of saliva?

I find it so boring of a conversation starter. Why is this the eternal question? Yes I’m unemployed but financially solvent. Why do I need a desk job to satisfy your musings of me throughout the day. Sometimes I enjoy the comfort of my home. I just find it fundamentally questionable for someone to make an off color remark thinking themselves cheeky as “I just picture you on the couch all day.” Again why? Why because I’m not pushing pencils answering to some crotch scratching moron all day do you envision me “wasting away” on the couch. Also what if I am? I love my home and I love my couch and cuddling with my dog and reading my books and cooking and luxuriating. I just feel like I’m made out to be a lame horse for not curing cancer like the rest of the corporate zombies of the world. If I said “I went to the park with my dog today and grabbed a coffee” it would be met with a pitiful “oh alright.” And don’t get me started on the most tired conversational standby of all “what do you do [for a living]?” Lol I made some good trades and now I’m chilling. Next question?

8 = spider entity. So immortality was granted but with a caveat because the ritual was incomplete. That’s why Tabitha’s ascent on the staircase in the lighthouse featured playing cards 4 of hearts and then 8 with a 7 peaking out behind the 8. When she awoke in the hospital her hospital gown was covered in hearts. The anghkoeey kids are all dressed in white but appear ghoulish. The boy in white looks healthy as a horse.

The scene in episode 2 season 1 Julie is playing with the finger puppets again while Ethan recovers from is leg injury. He’s staring out the window saying nothing and when asked what he’s looking at he says “nothing” BEFORE the boy in white creepily shushes him. Then proceeds to smirk in a way that borders on chilling. Idk if that makes as just the boys acting or the direction he was given. But like why not just say oh the boy outside! He’s over there waving. How does he know he’s only appearing to him? Why would he keep that to himself?

Also when he first talks about the lake of tears he mentions the “secret faeries.” Maybe that “shhh” is a nod to the secret aspect of the secret faeries? Whatever that means. But yeah, I felt both the smirk by Ethan and the little grinning shh by the BIW suggested some sort of preexisting relationship between the two. Maybe the first appearance of the BIW awoke something in Ethan.

I honestly hate the idea that they’ll reduce the whole plot to the villains being some abstract eldritch entities. The showrunners seem to be on some “Lost” redemption crusade. There’s a lot of “Once Upon a Time” parallels. Which wouldn’t you know it, the actor who plays Jim plays Pinocchio I believe. The concept of the show is googleable, but it’s very much akin to Froms premise. The town in Once is called “storybrook” and each citizen is a character from various fairytales whose memories have been wiped per the curse cast by “Regina” the evil witch from Snow White (which I still hold Donna Raines to be a sort of incarnation of per her name translating to imperial lady.

In “once upon a time” once a “character” emerges from the enchanted forest (their world) and enters the town You Forget Your Past: Under the original dark curse, individuals brought from the Enchanted Forest forget their true identities and live out a "Groundhog Day" existence, repeating the same, often miserable, day over and over for 28 years.

In “Once” the show hinged on interwoven folktales, which I suspect From is leaning in that direction as well. The young boy in Once “Henry Miller” is the grandson of the unwitting Snow White cursed to believe she’s an average grade school teacher, like Tabitha (forgetting her past life) and Mr Gold aka Rumplestiltskin, infamous trickster with an affinity for dark and twisted bargains (I.e the man in yellow) Like Ethan, Henry miller is also heavily invested in his beloved story book that he totes around (the cromenockle) like his life depends on it, likening his and his fellow denizens day to day lives to the featured tales within said book. I address the parallel between shows because while cheesy Once was a personal favorite escapist show. I’m starting to feel less horror from “From” and a little bit of the cheese factor but not in a bad way. The fact that there are fewer jump scares makes me believe that they’re more interested in themes of humanity rather than blood curdling brownie points.

Adam/eve (Fatima/ellis maybe Tabitha/ Jade) cain/abel (Ethan and Thomas who may be the boy in white to Ethan’s man in yellow?) (maybe Noah’s arc per the lake of tears)? Exploring themes of humanity in the pressure cooker that is the alleged presence of a morally ambivalent higher power “a watcher” so to speak.

Idk what to make of the webs. I really hope it’s not so cheesy as a giant spider being the big bad lol. I think the webs have something to do with dreams and nightmares (hearkening back to Donna gifting Fatima with a dream catcher and giving the show speech about its function). Obv this place operates on tropes of hopes vs fears. Dream catchers are essentially webs for night terrors. The lake of tears? Idk. I’m afraid it’s going to be revealed to be the obvious, but I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised by some poetic misdirect. We shall see.
