[Pennsylvania] Traveling out of state while on benefits? Help?

Last week I was in South Carolina on a preplanned and paid for vacation. I came back Saturday this week and answered no today for the question asking if I was available and able to accept work, because I wasn’t. Now there’s a review on my claim. What happens now? I’m nervous this will be a big thing, this whole process is such a pain in the ass for my anxiety. Has anyone experienced this before and can you please tell me what happens next?

Thanks.

[Texas] Appeal Hearing

Just had my appeal hearing and goddamn, that was so satisfying. little backstory, my employer denied my appeal claiming misconduct for my "excessive" health related absences. i was terminated for taking sick time because i dislocated my wrist.

I had doctor's notes, emails and evidence of no misconduct and prior times that i was compliant to their rules. one of my doctor's notes actually stated i shouldn't work the day of my employment but i logged in anyways... joke's on them because i feel like i ate down. i asked them a few questions and some of them had them stuttering and dumbfounded. it lasted exactly 45 mins. both sides got to speak AND ask questions to either party. you will get sworn in so if you say someone is lying on the record, STAND ON IT. your words have to mean something bc you're under oath. the hearing officer is obligated to believe your statement is true. i was on the verge of puking but i feel like the outcome will be positive.

****if you can bend the truth, just do it because they will do it to you****

my employer had my former supervisor as a witness but honestly it didn't add any more meaningful or important details than we were already knew. most of their evidence was internal communications between themselves which was totally pointless to the relevant topic being that i allegedly engaged in "misconduct".

i hope this helps someone bc i was looking for mad long on this subreddit on what it would ACTUALLY be like , in my state , with my circumstances...

we shall see what the decision is in a few days.

[New Mexico] Months after hearing and no verdict

Not only was I unjustly fired and had a bit of evidence of sexual harassment/humiliation by the company COO in a meeting, as well as health/safety issues, initially I was immediately denied benefits. I appealed and got a hearing, the employer lied under oath (and it was quite obvious), yet the judge has not issued a verdict over 3 months following the hearing. The whole purpose of unemployment benefits is that US Taxpayers and employees have a way to pay our bills when we are unjustly fired. Yet the judges here in New Mexico are really siding with the employer by delaying verdicts for months --having all the evidence they need to issue a verdict. Democrats rule in this state. Yet this is what we have...

[California] Do I re-open claim for unemployment or start a new claim?

So I was a part of a company-wide layoff back in October 2025, and I applied for unemployment.

It took a while to find a new job in the same field, but eventually got a freelancing contract with a company in February 2026.

This contract ended a day ago (July 1st).

And with that, I need to apply for unemployment benefits again.

My question is this:

Do i "re-open claim" or should I start a new claim for unemployment? Not sure what I'm supposed to do in this situation.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

[TEXAS] Eligible on Forced Resignation?

I was forced to resign from my job of 2.5 years today. I originally had a resignation date of 7/31/26 that’s documenting in my emails, because I have a job with my local school system starting in August. Monday (6/29/26), I had a very overwhelming day with my daycare classroom and told her I would try to make it through the week without being properly supported but I don’t know if I will be able to finish after Friday (7/3/26). Well today, I was pulled into the office before clocking in and was told that since I had been having complaints about the lack of support, my resignation notice was moved to today (7/1/26). She claims she doesn’t want me to come into work being upset & gave me no other option, but to sign this with a higher up on a video meeting to back her up. They did not give me a copy of said resignation form. I have since sent an email, following up on the resignation form that I was told I HAVE to sign and asked for a copy. Am I eligible for unemployment benefits?

[New Jersey] how long does interstate claims take?

So for context I filed for unemployment benefits in New Jersey. My claim was disqualified because of an overpayment balance of $149 in Georgia.
In the first week of June, I paid the $149 in full. Georgia has cleared the overpayment from my account and confirmed that I no longer owe anything on their end. However, it has now been almost 4 weeks, and my New Jersey claim is still on hold. I have not received any benefits, and it seems like the interstate issue has not been manually cleared yet. Has anyone gone through this? If so how did it go

[Michigan] Michigan UIA Changed My Claim to "Quit" – Isn't This a Layoff?

I'm really confused about how Michigan UIA classifies my separation, and I'm wondering if anyone has been through something similar.

Here's what happened:

  • My employer told me there was no more work available for me in Michigan and that my last day would be at the end of May.
  • Before that, they asked if I would be willing to work in Arizona for a few months.
  • I told them I wasn't able to relocate to Arizona.
  • They said, "Okay," and later informed me that my last day of work would be at the end of May because there was no more work for me in Michigan, and the company was relocating its office from Michigan to Arizona.
  • I never submitted a resignation letter, and I never told them I was quitting.

I originally filed my UIA claim as a layoff because my employer told me my last day would be at the end of May since there was no more work available in Michigan.

However, when I spoke with a UIA representative today, they said this would actually be considered a voluntary quit because I declined the opportunity to continue working in Arizona. They said they were going to amend my claim to show "quit" and send fact-finding questions to me and send questions to my employer.

(One thing I'm really worried about is what happens if my employer gives a different version of events or simply doesn't respond to UIA because they're too busy.)

Does declining a temporary relocation automatically make it a voluntary quit, even if your employer told you there was no more work in your original location and you never resigned?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this or knows how Michigan UIA usually handles situations like this.I was laid off/terminated at the end of May and should have started receiving unemployment benefits around June 1, but it's already June 29 and I still haven't received anything.

[New Jersey] unemployment while abroad

I was recently laid off. I work remotely, but my permanent residence is in NJ so I will file in NJ. However, I had plans to travel abroad while being unemployed. All interviews I would have would be remote and if and when I get a new job I would be working remotely again, but would relocate to whatever State need be. However, I’m reading that I can’t apply while out of the country. I’m seeing I will be flagged and locked out and also that a VPN does not work. Is this true and is there any way around this?

[Pennsylvania] IRS has unemployment in my wage statements for 2021. I’ve never applied nor collected

I recently got a letter from the IRS for underreported wages for 2021. My wage statements includes unemployment for $3496. I’ve had the same job for 19 years. I know this wasn’t me. I tried creating an online account to see if I could see anything. But one’s already been created with my SSN. The IRS data shows it was issued in my maiden name from an address I lived at in 2011. I changed my name in 2017.

As this happened to anyone else?

[California] If an employer issues paystubs for a Terminated employee for many months after job ended, resulting in felony criminal charges for unemployment fraud (double dipping since employer deemed person was "still employed" ) could that employee sue?

Could the former employee have a case for negligent employees record keeping perhaps? Argue the paystubs were issued without allowing that employee access to them?

[New York] Break in claim partial unemployment confusion

So i work a part time job that is 14 hours a week so every week I certify that I worked 11-16 which is 1 full day in unemployment world.
This week I went to urgent care because I was feeling unwell and found out I had a viral throat infection and was given 4 days off to recover/heal from it. My return date on my doctor's note is Monday.
So when Certifying this week for benefits I put 0 days worked instead of my usual 1 and it flagged my claim for an additional verification page calling it a "break in claim" basically the system thinks i was let go or quit... i dont understand this... and there's no way around this, and theres no way to out medically excuses or anything.. my confusion with unemployment is does it think people are robots and cant ever miss a day of work one time without automatically meaning they were let go?
its asking me
What is the reason you are no longer working for your most recent employer? Choose one.
• School Employee:
You are employed directly by a school and you are now on a school break, holiday or recess period, and have been offered work when school begins again. Note: You are not a school employee if you work for a private company contracted by the school (such as bus or food service companies).
• Lack of work:
You are unemployed because of a permanent or temporary lack of work, reduction in hours, downsizing, business shutdown, job elimination, company restructuring/reorganization, or lack of company funds

Quit:
You voluntarily left your job.
• Discharged/Let Go:
You were discharged because you were unable to meet employer performance or production standards, or you were unable to meet employer's qualifications for the
idk how to answer this because i'm still employed the just was out sick this week and im cleared to return tomorrow... why does unemployment do this?

[California] CA unemployment ($405) + $18/hr flexible job — what should I do?

Hey everyone,

I’m on unemployment in California getting $405/week. I got a job offer that pays about $18/hr and I can choose my hours.

I’m trying to decide:

  1. Work part-time (like 15- 20hrs) and get some EDD + wages, maybe work a bit more

  2. Work full-time and lose EDD but make more money

  3. Stay on unemployment and keep looking for a better job

Has anyone done this before? What’s the best move?
Also, any tips for reporting wages or things to watch out for?

Thanks

[Illinois] More Questions about Hearings

This is somewhat of a follow-up on my previous questions about the thieving couple I recently fired. I have since uncovered even more evidence of previous thefts. I filed a police report and I'm trying to decide if I should move forward with pressing charges or not. I want to press charges because, screw them, but I also just want this to be over and done with. They are shit people and probably know other shit people and who knows what they might do.

My first hearing is Monday, for the woman who had her unemployment denied. I have her fake orders (now 3 that I've found) and as part of her defense she sent me screen shots of texts between her and clients of the business in which she disparages both the business and me personally. I guess she didn't read that the definition of misconduct is behavior that is known or should reasonably be known to harm the company. Both theft and slander fit into that, IMO. I don't think she will win.

Anwyay, what I want to know is when do I find out the judge's ruling? The evidence of theft is pretty overwhelming, IMO. Her entire defense seems to be "but I was good at the job". And, the crazy thing is, I wouldn't even dispute that, she was good. But being good doesn't mean you can steal.

The guy's hearing was postponed because, apparently, the state of Illinois needs more than a week to process a video file for a judge. It's in a couple of weeks. I am counting down the days until this is over... So, when will I know??

[New Jersey] Laid off teacher eligibility

I was RIFd from as a teacher from a school district in NJ. When they told me, they even told me I should apply for unemployment. I have received a job offer in another school district starting in September. With my RIF letter, am I still eligible? I haven’t signed a contract yet. My employment technically ends on the 30th of this month. A co worker is in a similar situation (she has a job offer as well), and she thinks we are eligible. I’ve seen mixed things online and mixed feelings from people I’ve asked. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

[Illinois] Am I going to get in trouble for not reporting my doordash income while on unemployment?

I’ve been receiving unemployment since March and I learned I can doordash or do any side gig as long as it’s less than half of what I’ve been getting on unemployment. So I’ve been doing that every week since. However I haven’t reported it when I certify my unemployment every 2 weeks. I thought it didn’t matter as long as I stay below the required amount. Now I’m afraid I’ll get charged for fraud. Help?

[Mississippi] Investigator trying to narrow the situation ?

Hey everyone,

I recently had my phone conversation with an MDES investigator for my unemployment claim after voluntarily resigning from my job due to intolerable conditions. I quit due to ongoing discrimination and retaliation, scheduling, pay issues, false write ups, ignored Ethics/Speak Out complaints, and a hostile environment that was never resolved. Please keep in mind, I had to get someone in claimant to fill it out and she even watered my situation down due to stating “I can’t type all of that.”

During the call the investigator kept pushing for the “final incident” for additional details. He summarized it as me reaching out to my supervisor about scheduling, getting no response from the supe, being removed from the group chat, and then resigning. He seemed to base everything around former employer’s version that it was “around scheduling.” (I only said their version because he slipped up and said it.) I repeatedly corrected him that scheduling was just one symptom of the broader discrimination/retaliation pattern, not the sole reason, and that I had made multiple internal complaints all the way up to HR Vice President where she indirectly refused to allow me to escalate to corporate compliance after she ignored majority everything at her HR level.

I’m going to assume the investigator already spoke to my former employer first. I was caught off guard (just woke up) and feel like the phone format made it hard to give the full picture after I asked if I could email him answering his question, he refused stating we don’t do emails basically.

Am I misreading everything ? Normal ? - definitely prepared for the appeals if it goes that far

TL;DR:
MDES investigator kept pushing for one “final incident” (scheduling/group chat) based on former employer’s version. I corrected that it was ongoing discrimination/retaliation + ignored complaints. Phone call felt limiting. Normal process? What happens next?
