Laundry- 1st Floor or basement?
Renters: which would you prefer in a 3-bedroom apartment — first-floor stacked front load laundry or full-size side by side top load basement laundry?
I’m renovating a roughly 1,200 sq. ft. 3-bedroom/1-bath first-floor apartment and trying to decide between two laundry setups.
Option A: Existing full-size side-by-side top-load washer and dryer in the basement. The basement is private to the apartment and also provides a lot of storage space.
Option B: smaller full-size stacked/front-load washer and dryer in a recessed closet inside the first-floor bathroom.
If I put the laundry upstairs, I lose the space that could otherwise be used for a large built-in linen/storage cabinet.
Rent would be the same either way and the washer/dryer would be included.
Which would you prefer as a renter?
A — Full-size side-by-side washer/dryer in basement + more bathroom storage
B — Stacked washer/dryer on the first floor + less bathroom storage
I’m especially interested in hearing from families or people renting 2–3 bedroom apartments. Would first-floor laundry actually influence which apartment you chose?
