Smith & Pledger - Northern Lights (Oliver Smith’s 250 Mix)
The wait is finally over :)

The wait is finally over :)
Java become an instant classic for since the day it was debuted. It’s one of the best examples of blending the new and old Anjuna sound and hits me every time. Beyond excited to see him again at The Gorge next month!
I revisited Volume 3 for the first time in ages recently and was really blown away by some of those progressive tracks in the middle of the mix. V3 always felt like one of the weaker comps to me, not because it was bad, but because nothing caught my ear. This time around, this track and Trust Me really got me grooving. The slow burning, twisting groove on this remix is something naughty and I can only imagine hearing this on the dance floor.
I’m assuming this is his set from the Fabric afterparty this month. Should be a good listen!
It felt like this album got pretty mixed reviews on the subreddit, with some saying it’s one of their best in a long time, and others feeling let down due to it being too proggy or not trancey enough. Personally, I felt it was an amazing album and would hold up better over time than WAAWN and Common Ground have. While both of those albums have some amazing tracks, both also have some tracks that I’m really not a fan of and tend to skip over every time. BTAOU, on the other hand, feels much more consistent throughout the whole album for me. Letting Go is the only track I’ll skip but it’s not an instant skip like some of their older tracks are.
Tracks like Quicksand, Everywhere I Go, Blood From A Stone, Here Before, and the Justine tracks are future classics imo and some of the best things A&B have released in years. It feels like a lot of the complaints people had with this album will be solved as we get more club mixes. This album felt ripe for club mixes give how clubby it is and A&B seem to have a boatload in store. I think almost every track has a club ready mix of some kind. A lot of the unreleased ones are some of their best in years too and are a throwback to their earlier sounds - can’t wait to get proper debuts for Ride At Dawn or Heartland’s.
This album definitely hasn’t had the commercial reach that some of their past albums did but I think that’s ok. A&B were riding the wave of the American EDM boom with their previous two albums and BTAOU feels like an album very true to their hearts, one that they really wanted to make with no compromises. Maybe it’s not as commercially popular, but it feels like one made for their longtime fans. I’ve always said that A&B album releases are when the biggest changes come to the label, and alongside Volume 17, it’s a strong return to form for the boys and Beats. Can’t wait for their sets at 700!
> GRAMMY-nominated electronic trio Above & Beyond today announces the return of their flagship compilation series with 'Anjunabeats Volume 17', marking a new chapter for the label following a four-year hiatus.
> Spanning 35 tracks across two mixes, 'Anjunabeats Volume 17' is the latest edition in the series’ two-decade history. Curated between Above & Beyond’s London studio and their global touring schedule, the compilation captures the evolving sound of Anjunabeats - spotlighting both long-standing collaborators and a new generation of artists shaping the label’s future.
> Since its debut in 2003, the Anjunabeats Volume series has played a defining role in electronic music, introducing emerging talent and setting the tone for the label’s globally recognized blend of trance, progressive, and melodic club music. With Volume 17, Above & Beyond continue that tradition, delivering a forward-looking snapshot of where the sound is headed next.
> “Following the release of 'Bigger Than All Of Us', it felt important for this next chapter to celebrate the artists that make Anjunabeats such an exciting label to be a part of,” say Above & Beyond. “Volume 17 includes music from artists we’ve worked with for years as well as new faces representing the future of the label.”
> The compilation is split across two distinct mixes:
> Disc One explores a deeper, progressive palette - from tribal grooves to ’90s trance nostalgia.
> Disc Two captures the high-energy Anjunabeats sound built for festival moments around the world.

Doesn’t seem like it’ll be on V17 unless it’s hiding under a random name. It’s one of the coolest IDs they’ve played in a while that really shows off the evolution in sound happening on the label right now. Almost reminds me of something that’ll could’ve fit on Volume 8, similar to 90 Nights Of Summer. Feels like something that’ll get a proper debut at The Gorge later this year - perfect setting for it as well.

That Sun In Your Eyes remix was originally made back during the GT era in 2011 or so. Crazy to see it appearing again on ABGT today in 2026! Hope this means we see it released in the near future.
