Every morning when I feed Bayou, he climbs down onto one of his enclosures handles and waits for me to finish dusting his crickets. Once he’s done eating, he climbs back up and goes about his business.

I wanted to replace these handles (they’re from an extra set for my grill) because of how long they are. People will walk past the enclosure and hit their hips on it or their clothes will get caught. But now I don’t think I can because he claimed them as a perch lol.

At what age do you upgrade tank size? And to what length/size?

I currently have a 40 gallon tank.

This is Forest. He was given to me by my younger cousin when she couldn’t take care of him anymore. I’ve had him for around a month and a half. I’m not sure exactly how old he is.

I have a chameleon as well, so reptiles are not new to me, but bearded dragons are. I’m still learning how to properly care for him.

He wasn’t in the best situation before. He showed signs of MBD due to improper heat and no UVB. He wasn’t digesting properly. He also was only fed mealworms. He was impacted for around two weeks, where I had to place him in a bath every time he tried using the bathroom.

Much of those issues have been resolved. He doesn’t twitch anymore like he did, he has amazing strength compared to when I was given him, and he eats like a BEAST when it comes to collard greens and pumpkin puree.

My biggest question now is wondering when it’s time to give him a larger space. If anything I currently have in the enclosure can be updated, or if anything needs to be removed.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Even the basics are helpful. I just really want to make sure I’m doing everything right for him.
