What's your favorite Chicago happy hour?

Trying to map out the best happy hours in the city. Here are 5 I keep coming back to. What are yours? Let's build a Chicago happy hour list together!

1. Sushi-san — Lincoln Park

$6 maki rolls (normally $10), and they serve cocktails in soda cans. Sleek little sushi bar, and the HH runs every day, not just weekdays.

2. La Licor Panamericana — Logan Square

$16 machaca burger with fries at a Latin-inspired cocktail bar. Solid full meal + a cocktail without the usual markup.

3. il Porcellino — River North

$6 pizza on weekday happy hour (Mon–Fri). Housemade pastas and a good wine list too — hard to beat $6 for a pie in River North.

4. Kayao — Old Town

$12 ceviche (down from $29), plus $2.50 oysters, at a Japanese-Chinese-Peruvian fusion spot. Bar & patio only.

5. Oliver's — South Loop

$12 "tiny martini" with truffle fries in a 1930s LA-inspired room. Tue–Fri, 5–6pm — perfect after-work stop.

please drop your go-to Chicago happy hours. I want to save more good HH in my list!

Qiao Lin Hotpot : Chicago’s best hot pot spot so far for me

I was looking for a place to grab dinner by myself and found this reservation deal on a deal platform, so I decided to give it a try. They have both a Downtown and a Chinatown location, and I went to the Downtown one.

- Combo Set

The portion was much bigger than I expected. It came with meat, vegetables, and unlimited carbs (I chose noodles). You also get to choose your broth—I went with the tomato broth—and picked pork belly for my meat.

- Drinks

They also had a drink discount, so I ordered a non-alcoholic beer. It paired surprisingly well with the hot pot.

- Salad Bar

There's a well-stocked salad bar with fresh vegetables, side dishes, sauces, and condiments (see the photos). Everything was high quality.

The regular price is definitely on the expensive side, but if you book through a deal platform before 6 PM, you get the discount, and I honestly think it's well worth it.

This might be my favorite hot pot spot in Chicago so far.

If you know an even better hot pot place, please let me know!

K-Tex BBQ pop-up in West Loop! My first Texas BBQ in Chicago

Stopped by the K-Tex BBQ pop-up in West Loop this week.

This was actually my first time having Texas-style BBQ in Chicago, and I thought it was really good. The meat was fantastic, and the sides and desserts were surprisingly solid too.

From what I can tell, they don't have a brick-and-mortar location and are currently operating through pop-ups only. If anyone's interested, check out their Instagram for upcoming events.

Now I'm on a mission to try more Texas BBQ around Chicago. Where should I go next? What are the best Texas BBQ spots in the city?

What is your favorite delivery pizza place?

So far I’ve mostly had bigger chains like Domino’s, Papa John’s(attached pic), Lou Malnati’s, and Giordano’s. But I’m curious — do you have any favorite local/smaller pizza places for delivery that you’d recommend?

recently had the chance to try Mister Tiger thanks to a 20% discount, and it turned out to be a really great first Korean food experience Definitely got me interested in exploring more Korean cuisine!!!

What we had for a party of two:

  • Calamari Muchim (kind of like a spicy squid salad?)
  • Galbijjim (braised short rib) — this was the best
  • Bulgogi Hot Stone Bibimbap

We left very full. It’s not exactly cheap, so I had been saving this place for a special day and this felt like the perfect opportunity.

Even without the discount, I’d honestly go back it was good enough

Would also love any recommendations for other Korean restaurants to try in Chicago!
