Selective outrage is real. People do scold about generative AI while running on the same infrastructure.
>!Long Post Ahead!<
I want to note firstly this is just a take, has nothing to do with feelings and I’m writing this now and this isn’t a new argument at all by now. I am only pushing others to think logically instead resorting to insults or sarcasm when pushed out of their comfort zones.
I have a true bone to pick with the people who sit up here all day and argue with people for their usage of only “Generative AI” and not the other forms of AI that consume even just a tad. You know just the tiniest drop of water could break a dam if you’ve contributed to its use. It doesn’t make you a better person.
I’m not saying you have no right to complain but if you use Tiktok, Netflix, Google, Apple Devices, Apple Maps, Google Maps, All Amazon Web Services, Cooling Systems, Nvidia Chips, Siri, Alexa, Youtube, Smart Home Devices.
All of which you can research on your own EASILY. And then you would still be using AI unless you use DuckDuckGo, Brave Search or a real life book.
These things are optional for a smooth easy fast life that you get to enjoy every single day. So deciding to bash on someone because they directly use it while you use it equally with different program that you don’t even think about twice doesn’t make you saviour of the day. Unless you live by growing your own food, sewing all of your own clothing, manually searching for something because no smart searches, you own a flip phone which you probably don't have because how would you see this post? Slower software, slower discoveries and help for the ones who need it.
Doctors would miss early pattern recognition of diseases. And things would be less efficient. Everything in this world has their upside and downsides. Living completely offline, without the use of technology will result in a slower life which most do not want truly. Most people complain about working but work even more without these advancements. You get to be on social media almost everyday to share your opinions and enjoy your curated algorithms.
Without these things, you would still somehow complain about how slow things are and someone will invent something to make your life smoother and easier. Plus everyone wants to feel as though they are contributing something and just want to live in this world with billionaires in charge and pushing the finish line from everyone else because people are contributing to their wealth.
My question is could you stop helping them or do you just need to engage in things that don’t require much labor?
The truth is, you do not want to go back in time and you rather sit in a cool temperature home, with your ai built-in smart phone, while complaining to people online about the use of AI while using it as well when it is optional. Most of you make fun of the Amish or find their life fascinating when you preach against the dangers of technology advancement. These tech companies do not care about you and you still choose to fill their pockets selectively for your convenience.
I’m not saying I go out of my way to use AI centered things, but in my opinion it’s quite hypocritical to criticize others even if you use a small amount.
The analogy is just because you stole one cookie and the other person stole 5, it doesn’t make you better than them or a decent advocate.
It starts with action, not complaints because complaints haven’t truly gotten us anywhere unless action is taken.
Otherwise, you can just go back to making fueled hate post about the usage of ai on a platform that supports AI, instead of getting off said platform/boycotting the platform because technology doesn’t care about complaints unless you stop using it which is going to be hard for many to do so they rather complain because that’s easier to do.
Whatever feeds your dopamine levels.
I can go more into this, would love to debate.
Note: I'm not saying F yeah AI! because I have a smart phone and use social media, I'm simply annoyed with users who want to feel better than one another while partaking in the same activity, just in a different way.
