BOOTS ON THE GROUND

Everyone may disagree with me, but in my opinion “doing business remotely” in the UAE is highly overrated — especially in consultancy and compliance-related services.

You cannot simply open a management consultancy company online and start selling UAE business services without truly understanding the physical business workflow, government procedures, banking realities, compliance risks, and how things actually move on the ground in the UAE.

This message is especially for expats across Asia, India, Bangladesh, Europe, and other regions. I’ve noticed many people registering online businesses and offering services for AED 100–200. But when clients actually face real issues — bank compliance problems, VAT notices, visa complications, free zone restrictions, audit requirements, document rejections, landlord disputes, or corporate tax matters — these cheap online providers disappear.

Meanwhile, someone physically based in the UAE, with real experience, an office, local connections, and boots on the ground may charge AED 1,000+ for the same service because they understand the system and can actually solve problems when things go wrong.

In the UAE, relationships, follow-ups, physical presence, and local operational understanding matter a lot more than people think.

Remote business sounds attractive on social media.
Boots on the ground build real businesses.

Can I remove my business partner even if he is outside the UAE?

One day, a business owner came to me stressed because his partner had left the UAE and stopped cooperating with the company. He thought the business was stuck forever. I explained that in the UAE, removing a business partner depends on the company structure, MOA, shareholder agreements, and legal authority — not just whether the partner is inside or outside the country. First, we reviewed the company documents, ownership percentages, and signing powers. Then we explored the options: mutual share transfer, removing managerial authority, restructuring the company, or taking legal action if the partner was causing damage or refusing cooperation. I also advised him to secure bank access, accounting records, VAT and corporate tax compliance, and all company documentation before starting any dispute. In the end, he realized that with the right legal strategy and paperwork, even an overseas partner can be dealt with properly under UAE law.

Your Accountant Might Be Costing You Thousands Without You Even Knowing It

Many business owners in the UAE blindly trust third-party consultants and channel partners without ever reviewing what’s actually being submitted or charged behind the scenes.

Today, I met a business owner for coffee who told me he was constantly being asked to “just pay this amount” every quarter with no proper explanation or transparency. Within 1 hour of reviewing the records, I identified major VAT filing mistakes, corrected the errors, and helped save him over AED 10,000 in unnecessary overpayments.

Guys, this is your hard-earned money. Don’t just pay random figures because someone tells you to. Understand what’s being filed, review your records properly, and make sure the people handling your business actually know what they’re doing.

Sometimes the biggest damage to cash flow doesn’t come from the market — it comes from poor handling behind the scenes.

Some UAE Freezone Channel Partners Don’t Build Businesses… They Trap Them

Everyone says “setting up a company in UAE freezone is easy” — and honestly, it is.
The real story starts AFTER incorporation.

That’s when many business owners suddenly discover:

• Salary certificates? Extra charges.
• VAT filing? Extra charges.
• Corporate Tax filing? Extra charges.
• Annual audit? Extra charges.
• Need support from the freezone? “Please contact your channel partner.”

And if you decide to move away from the channel partner, many times you hear:
“Sure, pay AED 5,000+ for NOC/release.”

Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs only realize this after their cash flow already starts suffering.

Before choosing any freezone/channel partner, ask these questions clearly:

  1. Who owns client relationship officially?
  2. What are annual recurring costs AFTER setup?
  3. Is NOC required to move service providers?
  4. What are audit/VAT/CT filing charges later?
  5. What support comes directly from freezone vs partner?

Setup cost is not the real cost.
The real cost is the lock-in after year 1.
