This theory might be a bit crazy, but bear with me.
Zangetsu (斬月), Engetsu (剡月) and Kyōka Suigetsu (鏡花水月) all share the last character 月. According to question number 472 on Kubo-sensei’s kluboutside similarities with zanpakutō can occur between blood relatives.
The fact that he specified blood relatives and did not just confirm the theory is a bit puzzling. It is not uncommon for Kubo to answer in one word.
Additionally both Engetsu and Kyōka Suigetsu have similar appearances. Both have a hexagonal tsuba.
