Searching for cheap and nice-quality jotter in London

Hello there!

I am searching for a nice and durable handbook for my notes. If possible, I would rather go in person somewhere but I'm also considering online versions.

I've been used Moleskine handbooks for a long time, which I find great and very good looking. Since they were too expensive for me I've switched to Muji notebooks, which are great, and I really like the products of HEMA (dutch store, but I know they have multiple shops), which are insanely cheap and have great sheet-quality.

I am searching for something along these lines, and maybe trying something new.

Any hint or suggestion is definitely welcome!

Cool curiosity about the Bayeux Tapestry

The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most fascinating art

product ever produced. I love the variety of the characthers depicted and the pace it sets.

There's one detail yet, that I remember from my studies that never left me. The first guy on the right is Harold, duke claiming to the throne, while the second one is Odo, bishop of Bayeux. Pretty normal. But there's more.

They both wield a mace, and not a sword: the king holds the sceptre, symbol of power, while the bishop has a triple-headed-mace. But why?

That is because at the time (but even know) churchmen were not allowed to spread blood, so they just found a way around: beating the holyness out of people without causing a drop of blood.

Somehow funny.

Moving to London for a master — a bit lost, send help!

Hi everyone!

I recently graduated in Cultural Heritage (History of Art, basically), in Italy. I've been accepted to study at the Warburg Institute in London (UoL), and I'll be moving over in the first few days of September once my visa is sorted.

I've read a lot of experiences and tips about London here on Reddit, but I'll admit to feeling a bit overwhelmed. I've only been to London once as a kid, so I don't know the city very well. I'm super excited and have great memories about it tho.

I am trying to learn which neighbourhoods are better considering my age (early 20's), my university location (Bloomsbury, I guess) and my lifestyle. My master is a one-year programme. I've read about London zones and I'd rather not go beyond Zone 2.

My budget is around 1100£ pcm and I have plenty of experience with flatshares.

A few things about me.

I love everything about nature so I would love living close to a park or a green area. I am also quite outgoing and enjoy socialising. I do rock and gym climbing and play piano and guitar; I love catching live music and jam sessions. I also use my bike as much as I can and it would be awesome to live within cycling distance from my uni and main venues.

Any tip, thought, opinion is more than welcome!!

Thanks so much in advance.

Moving to London for the Warburg Institute (MA) — advice welcome!

Hi everyone,

I'm Italian and recently graduated in Cultural Heritage (History of Art, basically). I've been accepted to study at the Warburg Institute in London (UoL), and I'll be moving over in the first few days of September once my visa is sorted.

A few things I'd love some help with:

  1. If anyone has studied at the Warburg Institute themselves, I'd really appreciate hearing about their experience and impressions — teaching style, workload, the library, the overall atmosphere.
  2. General advice on settling into university life in London as an international student — I know it's an expensive city, and it's one I don't know well at all.
  3. Finding a room to rent. I'm a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to start — the institute is right in the city centre, close to the British Museum, so ideally I'd like to be somewhere nearby.
  4. Any tips you wish you'd known before starting a postgrad in the UK!

My budget is around 1100£ pcm and I am perfectly fine with flatmates.

Thanks so much in advance!
