tips for maintaining altitude and flying a perfect pattern

i’m roughly 25 hours into my PPL training and i’m still having trouble maintaining altitude while doing maneuvers and straight/level and i struggle with flying a clean tight pattern. I tend to drop or climb 100+.

i tend to overcorrect a lot and use my instruments a lot more than my ground references which is a bit of an issue. I tend to chase the instruments truthfully which i know isn’t good for PPL.

Any tips from you guys who’ve been through this training? My instructor helps me but I like to know other point of views!

Thank you guys!

401k withdrawl roth IRA rollover

Hi there everyone, I did a withdrawl of a certain amount from my 401k because I’m in a financial hardship and when I did this they said to open up a rollover IRA account in order for my 401k to be sent to me.

I proceeded to do this and the IRA account shows up on my app, however, on the transaction/pending page it still tells me to open up a rollover account.

I’m wondering since I did this last week that the IRA account isn’t processed in the system? Or did I do something wrong on my end? Do i just open the account and wait for them to do the rest?

Thank you!

pre solo sucked

A few days ago I flew with this lady CFI who was very nice for a second opinion for my solo because my school requires it before a solo (i’m in a mom and pop shop in virginia). I completely blew my chance during pre solo (for reference I have 16 hours) and couldn’t solo that day.

I did so well on the past few flights and everything, but then when I took off all my nerves just hit me. Like I messed up pattern work which I didn’t have any issues with and radio calls weren’t the best since I was at an untowered airport. I did good with the landings and take offs, maintaining alt/airspeed was a bit off but nothing too crazy.

It just feels disappointing that this happened since I know what I’m capable of and have done so much better before. I know it’s not a big deal but it still sucks. The CFI was nice and told me maybe I needed another lesson or two before soloing.

Anyone have similar experiences/or any advice?

ATC question/pattern

When flying in the pattern and ATC calls you on downwind to do a 360, do you continue flying all the legs after the 360 is complete?

Do you start doing the normal configurations for landing, but for my understanding you are NOT cleared to land and have to wait till ATC says “cleared”? Is this right or am I understanding wrong?

In general if they say spot traffic/continue normal traffic/2nd in line? What does this all mean?

My instructor is out right now so I can’t ask him since he’s away for a week. I asked chatgpt but I take it all with a grain of salt lol.

Thank you!! (fr looking for help)

first two days at flight school

I’m willing to work and do all the hard work there is in order to achieve my dream, however, the past two days have been so overwhelming with the amount of information being presented to me and I don’t even know where to start or what. Granted I’m new, but still feels discouraging.

For example, today on the flight she (CFI) brought up stalls and obviously explaining to me. But me obviously new I still don’t get the concept and stuff and power of stall etc. heck i don’t even know how to properly take off an airplane!

I’m not sure what to do i’m so stressed and overwhelmed and i’m trying to study what i think i should but also i don’t understand it.

I haven’t done a ground yet until saturday.

Any advice/things to help this be a better experience?

Thank you!

I got approved for my first class medical (exp august 31 2026) last week and i haven’t received anything in the mail yet for it.

I call FAA oklahoma and they said it was shipped from washington yesterday (for reference i live in CT)

I just wanted to ask the wait time for it because I’m submitting a loan for flight school and they need the medical paper to start the underwriting.

any experience?

Thanks!
