Watching “The Terror;” any similar historical horror/mystery shows/movies you recommend?
My wife and I have never been into typical jump-scare demon/slasher blood/guts horror, but we have recently taken a liking to shows and movies with horror (like ghosts & gothic horror), mystery, and adventure elements set in different time periods. Our most recent movie was Eggers’ “The Lighthouse,” and we are currently watching AMC’s “The Terror,” both of which we have thoroughly enjoyed with the mystery/suspense, nautical horror elements, and sense of impending doom. Are there any similar horror/mystery shows/movies set in different times you recommend to us?
Mystery/Horror we have watched & enjoyed:
\- The Lighthouse (2019)
\- The Terror
\- Nosferatu (2024)
\- Sleepy Hollow (1999)
\- And Then There Were None
\- The Woman in Black
\- A Haunting in Venice
\- Frankenstein (2025)
Dr. Doom loses in Doomsday but wins in Secret Wars. How would audiences respond? If Marvel goes the route of Infinity War/Endgame and has Doom win only to lose in the sequel, it’s pretty predictable. However, if he loses in the first movie and wins in the sequel, do audiences lose faith in the villain before the finale similarly to what happened to Kang after Quantumania? Furthermore, do audiences get upset if Doom’s victory is more permanent than Thanos if he ultimately wins in Secret Wars?
Personally, I’m hoping Marvel takes the same approach to Doom as they did with Mysterio in Far From Home. Going in, I knew Mysterio was a classic Spider-Man villain, but I must admit that I was just beginning to question whether or not he had ulterior motives right before Mysterio dropped the act. Similarly, audiences will expect Doom to be the villain of Doomsday; they KNOW it’s him. To counter this, Doom is instead presented by the F4 as a friend and ally, and throughout the movie he does some heroic things, but right as the audience and the protagonists let their guard down and trust him, near the end of the movie Doom does something unforgivable and stabs everyone in the back. He manipulates and plays the friend role until he thinks it safe to drop the act like Mysterio. Jake had the acting chops to play the convincing mentor and total psycho, and RDJ could likely do something similar. Thoughts?
