What does Europe look like from North Africa and the Middle East and what is your opinion of our part of the world?

I am British and for the past few years i have from time to time. Traveled to various different Middle Eastern and North African countries. It is interesting to see all the differences, but also some of the similarities. Though these are certainly, rather distinct geographic and cultural areas.

With there also obviously, being many differences, between the countries in these regions too. I think that people forget that Europe. Has been connected to these sort of places since ancient times. Indeed North African countries for example, most likely have more of a history of interacting with Europe.

Than with the nations south of the Sahara desert. Indeed you can see a lot of shared Roman heritage in North Africa and also in parts of the Middle East. I have seen some splendid Roman architecture in some of those countries. There are also obvious similarities in the cuisine of all of the Mediterranean countries.

From my point of view some of these countries are more different than others. Turkey which is sometimes counted as Europe, can in places feel very European. I have never been to Syria, but the coastal areas of Jordan, could easily pass for Greece. Whereas some of these other countries can feel very different.

I suppose that typically the further away a country is the more different it will be. I very much enjoy travelling and will soon be going to Tunisia. I also intend go for a city break to Dubai next year. However whenever i visit any of these places the duration of my stay is seldom longer than a few weeks.

While the whole time i am being taken around to see tourist attractions. I don't think anyone can really understand a place if you have only been there for a few weeks. Nor see their point of view....So as for all you guys down there to the South.

What is your opinion of Europe and how do you see us?

How have you being surviving the British/ European heatwave? Do you think this is the new norm and do you think it is now worth buying air con if you live in the UK?

I am from Cardiff in Wales in the UK. Right now it is only 25 degrees Celsius which is fine. However over the past few days, we had a record breaking June temperature in Wales. It was a tiny fraction under 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and also very humid.

Here is a snapshot of my day when it was 37 degrees....

I had no choice but to walk over the shop in the afternoon. Since i can't drive on account of being epileptic. I was covered in sweat, before i even get to the end of the road. The streets were quiet and eerily empty.

I noticed that all the windows in peoples homes, were wide open and their curtains closed. I see no one other than this bald giant. Who looked liked like he was about six foot six. Who was wearing sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt.

He had obviously caught the sun as his face was bright red. I stop along the way and stand for a minute in the shade. I put my hand on a railing and swiftly let go as it burned my hands. Eventually i make it to the supermarket at the top of the hill.

As i enter the door of Aldi's i feel the heavenly sensation of air conditioning. I then walk around and notice a sign. Indicating that air conditioning units, have been on sale, but have sold out. Eventually i make it back home and stagger through the front door.

As i unpack my shopping i can see that my Cadbury's chocolate bar has melted. Though i did not feel hungry anyway and had barely eaten for days. I then decide on a cold bath rather than a shower. However i felt so hot that the ice cold water did not even feel cold.

I then i had to do some work in front in my computer. I did not feel like it but i had to get it done. Not sure if heat can bring on epileptic seizures. However i did have quite a few small petit mal seizures that afternoon.

So i was sat there sweating and trying to work. While feeling spaced out and compulsively, rolling my eyes back from time to time. With a fan blowing and sweat dripping off my face. Then when it was time to go to the bed.

I could not sleep for long and kept waking up in a sweat. That was bloody torture!

If this sort of heat becomes the new summer norm. We will all be crying and begging to have our traditional dreary British weather back. It is not that bad if you think about it. Yeah it is dull and it would be nice if there were more sunny days.

However it is seldom uncomfortably hot or cold. However the past few days were not a nice hot. That felt like punishment! It was like spending the whole day in a sauna, with the temperature dialed up to max.

I envy people in the North of the country. I have family in Scotland and though it was abnormally hot in Scotland. It was actually drastically cooler by several degrees up that way. Whereas down here it was like we were all being cooked.

It said on the news that quite a few people have died from this hellish heat. If this really is the new norm. Then i can see myself becoming a climate refugee and moving up there. It is only June and it apparently may get even hotter in July and August!

Not sure if it is worth buying an air conditioning. I don't have a lot of money as among other things i am going on holiday to Poland in the Autumn. I also have to buy a new laptop oh and and pre-order GTA 6. However though last summer was regular sort of weather.

A few years ago it hit a record breaking 40 degrees Celsius ( 104 degrees Fahrenheit). I think perhaps this is a trend, rather than a freak occurrence. If it does heat up like that again. I think i am just gonna say "Fck this" and just give in and buy expensive air conditioning.

However i will struggle to afford one right now. I may not be able to afford it at this moment in time. The ones i was looking at cost upwards of 500 quid.
