NLD - Acebeam K1 (part 1)
Lights in order:
E04 Surge (21700)
Convoy T8 (14500)
Acebeam K1 (14500)
Convoy T7 (14500)
Emisar D3AA (14500)
Wurkkos 21700 battery
------------------
Acebeam K1 - 14500-powered flashlight with a throwy white light, a powerful laser, and a 1000mW UV. Does not have onboard charging but comes with a battery that does have USB-C charging.
I really like this one.
I was juggling between black and teal, but black would have been too utilitarian so I ended up with teal. I'm glad I did. I'm digging the color.
The rotary selection ring is great. I've been a fan of this particular mechanism ever since I got my Sofirn HS21.
The white light main beam is bright and throwy. *add: It is similar to the beam of an E04 Surge with FFL505A, just slightly narrower.
I like it, except for the fact that the hotspot is just a solid green circle surrounded by a cool white corona.
The UV is good, not much to say about it. It doesn't have a ZWB2 filter, but it shouldn't be a problem for casual UV situations.
The laser is great. I got a Class 3R one, though I've heard stricter regions get a Class 1 instead.
It is nice and punchy. The photo where I aimed it at a pole was roughly 180 meters away (zoom in). Pretty solid, I'd say.
The laser was primarily my reason for buying this. There's not many 14500-powered laser pointers other than the semi-custom ones which are a bit pricy.
There's also the Rovyvon E10 as pointed out to me in a comment, but that's $100 bucks or so, and I already placed an order for this one.
I'm glad I got this one, though. This is better than I expected and the white light, while ugly, is useful and plenty throwy. A bit big for a 14500 light, but it is very light and feels great to use.
Though, be warned, it cannot fit K10 or F15 button tops, which is a shame. So for now, I'm stuck with the OEM battery —which has USB-C charging, so it's not all bad. If anyone knows what 14500s can fit, please let me know.
Got an Acebeam K1. How do I tell what Class the laser is?
Should I get some H10s from before April 2025 if I can find some?
Or will K10 suffice for powering an 8A driver?
Would voltage sag be an issue on the K10?
Got myself a SkyRC MC5000 but I'm having mixed feelings
Was this a good choice?
I'm pretty much a normie when it comes to batteries but I got one because it seemed much better than my Vapcell S4+, which gave me inaccurate IR readings.
I did get this for $107. Seemed like an okay deal at the time.
I valued the ability to charge at high currents for all slots, much like the S4+ that can do 3A for all of its four slots. I also like that it seems more accurate at giving IR readings.
That said, for someone like me that is more casual about the hobby, I'm starting to think that this may have been more than I can chew. I probably can't utilize every feature it offers such as the ability to charge the various chemistries it can do. I only have Li-ions right now.
I've also not managed to activate the fans yet, but I just saw wormminators post about the noise they create and it doesn't sound too good.
I keep thinking I should have just learned how to use a DMM to measure IR and just kept using the S4+ for charging.
That said, this is a fun charger to use, that I cannot deny.
Is this a suitable replacement for a Hayward DE 6020 filter?
I'm just concerned about quality.
Is it all the same?
NLD - Brass T8 SFT40 3000k
This thing is so heavy and big for a 14500 class light. 198.4 grams with a K10 battery.
Beautiful brass, though.
I plan to swap a 3V 8A driver in it, but I didn't realize it had a beefy spring.
Do I partially cut the spring or remove it completely? I don't have any experience with this, this is pretty much new to me.
Lights in order:
E04 Surge (21700)
SC31 Pro (18650)
T8 (AA/14500)
T7 (AA/14500)
D3AA (AA/14500)
SC13 Cu (18350)
looking for a 14500 flashlight with a laser pointer
Or just a stand-alone laser pointer that takes 14500 batteries.
I know there's the Acebeam K1 and I'm ready to buy it, but I thought I'd ask for alternatives first.
I am partial to the Convoy T7, currently.
It has onboard charging, a simple UI, a strong tail magnet, 519A options for high CRI, replaceable batteries and dual fuel capability! All for $17!
Of course, it's not the only 14500 light in the market, so I'd like to know some more options.
-14500 specifically because the hosts tend to have a slimmer profile which is nice to hold.
-usb-c charging is a must for normies.
-The simpler the UI, the better.
-Dual fuel for AA/NiMH capability.
-Preferably high cri but optional
Nothing too fancy. Just something to point with.
Is there anything like that for $20 or less?
Assuming the 5050 emitter is using a reflector with a larger opening to accomodate the larger footprint.
The only charger I have that can take 14500s is a Vapcell S4+ but I want something more compact.
I actually have a convoy T7 with me and I guess I could use it as a charger, but If there are other options I'd like to hear about them.
I like my E04 because it combines several low-output emitters into a powerhouse with decent throw.
Just wish it had more on the throw part. At least 700-800 meters.
I wish there was a throwier optic available.
Haven't had much luck and I've been searching on and off off of Aliexpress and Amazon.
I'm not looking for anything enthusiast-grade, or something really expensive, though.
I'm just looking for a lighter with a bic-style frame but with a shiny metal shell and uses a piezoelectric ignition. Something a bit more handsome to look at than the disposable plastic ones.
I've found a lot that fit the bill aesthetically, but all of them have been those "windproof jet lighters"
I've gotten couple of those, but I very much prefer the gentle burn of a regular flame.
So I turn to you guys, hoping you can give me some advice where to look.
I've only got one in my collection. A 519A 2700k in a Convoy S21E.
I havem't used it much since I got it but when I fished it out yesterday, it felt so nice on the eyes and took away the strain I felt. Maybe it's just because of my exhaustion, but it really did feel super cozy even compared to SFT40 3000K and it made 519A 4000k DD look bright and harsh.
I'm thinking of getting more 2700k so I wanted to consider some of the other offerings from Hank and Fireflies.
Does anyone have photos of the NTG35/50 2700k and FFL351A 2700k compared to the 519A?
I've heard those two were kind of rosy, but I'm interested. I know rosiness makes lights feel cooler so would those two be harsher on the eyes or are they just fine?
