IndiGo refusing a surname correction for the same passenger — what are my options?
**ame passenger — what are my options?**
**Reddit post**
Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation with IndiGo/Cleartrip.
I booked a **Kolkata → Patna** flight through Cleartrip for **November 2026**. There are two passengers on the booking — me and my mother.
Unfortunately, while making the booking, my surname was entered incorrectly.
**Name on ticket:** \[Surname A\]
**Correct legal surname:** \[Surname B\]
My first name is exactly the same. I am the **same passenger** and I am not trying to transfer the ticket to someone else.
I contacted Cleartrip and provided my government ID showing my correct legal name. Cleartrip contacted IndiGo regarding the correction, but IndiGo refused, saying that both names are valid names and therefore changing one valid name to another isn’t considered a permissible name correction.
I then escalated the matter directly to IndiGo. IndiGo’s latest response says that because the booking was made through a travel agency, any correction/exception has to be processed through the travel agency, and they asked me to continue coordinating with the travel partner.
So I’m currently stuck in a loop:
**Cleartrip:** We contacted IndiGo and IndiGo refused.
**IndiGo:** Contact your travel partner.
IndiGo has also said that because the booking is beyond 24 hours, the standard correction process doesn’t apply and the existing booking may need to be cancelled and a new reservation made.
The problem is the financial loss. Cleartrip has told me that if I cancel **only my passenger ticket**, the refund would be approximately **₹72**, after which I would have to purchase a completely new ticket for myself for the same journey.
I have travelled with IndiGo many times before, so I was hoping they might consider this as a genuine same-passenger identity correction if I provide my government ID.
I have already asked for a senior-level review, but IndiGo has again directed me to the travel partner.
**What would you do in this situation?**
Has anyone successfully corrected a surname with IndiGo when it was a genuine same-passenger mistake?
Is there any escalation route beyond regular IndiGo customer support that actually works?
Should I pursue AirSewa/consumer grievance before cancelling the ticket?
Has anyone had success getting Cleartrip to escalate something like this with IndiGo?
Would you cancel/rebook now, or continue escalating since the flight is still more than a month away?
I’m not trying to bypass the airline’s rules. I just don’t want to lose almost the entire value of my ticket and then pay again for the **same passenger on the same flight** because of a surname entered incorrectly during booking.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.
