The legend of Indian Volleyball Jimmy George
With Indian volleyball on a generational run, recently winning 5 consecutive matches against higher-ranked teams. At this moment, let's remember our very own legend in the game, Jimmy George. In 1979, he made history by becoming the first Indian volleyball player to turn professional, playing first in the Persian Gulf and later in Italy's elite Serie A league, where he was celebrated as one of the best attackers in the world.
He also captained the Indian national team, famously leading them to a historic bronze medal at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. Tragically, his legendary career was cut short when he died in a car accident in Italy at the age of 32. The stadium PalaGeorge in Montichiari, Italy, is named after him.
