Terre d'Hermes a good replacement for Sur La Route?
I just polished off my bottle or Sur La Route and am sad to see I can't get anymore, it is one of my top scents. I thought aboutbuying decants of it but I use it more than any other scent I have, so that's not really an option... I have been doing my research to try to find a good analog and so far I think Terre d'Hermes may be the best analog because:
- Similar citrus-leather-earthy DNA — Sur La Route opens with that tart citrus-green freshness before settling into a leather and grass dry-down. Terre d'Hermès follows the same arc — bright grapefruit and orange opening that evolves into flint, vetiver, and cedar. Different ingredients, same emotional journey.
- The leather quality is comparable — Sur La Route has that distinctive animalic leather note that gives it body and projection beyond typical LV freshies. Terre d'Hermès Parfum has a similarly grounded leather-earthy character in the dry-down that feels like a natural spiritual successor.
- Actually performs — Sur La Route was never a beast mode performer but Terre d'Hermès Parfum concentration genuinely lasts. If you loved Sur La Route but wished it projected better and lasted longer, TdH Parfum solves both problems simultaneously.
- Discontinued fragrances deserve discontinued-proof replacements — buying more decants of Sur La Route just delays the inevitable. Terre d'Hermès isn't going anywhere and the Parfum mini at $33 on Amazon is a low-risk entry point to test the DNA before committing to a full bottle.
- The niche alternatives fall short — I looked at Creed Green Irish Tweed (too sweet and powdery), Acqua di Gio Profondo (too aquatic, loses the leather), and Tom Ford Neroli Portofino (too feminine, terrible longevity). Terre d'Hermès is the only one that captures Sur La Route's specific citrus-leather-vetiver triangle without veering into different territory entirely.
So what I did for me research was this... I have all of my scents logged in Claude's memory. Claude knows what I like and what I don't like. It knows what notes are my favorite and which ones I hates. So based on my collection / my preferences Claude is suggesting this is the best option for me because of the bullet points above.
Does anyone out there have experience with both of these fragrances and can confirm it's a good analog to Sur La Route? I realize it's only a $33 blind-buy, not a huge chunk'o'change for me. But I am genuinely curious as to how they compare.
AI text is in italics and they are data points for reference. But if you think this is SLOP go ahead and remove it.
Edit: Found conflicting information about Sur La Route online, so opened up a chat with online rep. Waiting to hear back from them. Will update when I know more.
Update: Just out of stock. So much for the internet being right. ;) Online chat rep confirmed it will be back in stock at some point. But I'm still looking for good alternatives.
