Possible to learn to speak clearly around constant vocal tics?
My kid has lots of vocal tics that go through periods of happening every couple seconds. Lately these periods have been getting worse and more long-lasting, and my kid has recently developed coprolalia too. They power through their speaking, but it's so cluttered with near-constant throat noises and muttered swears I've started having an impossible time deciphering what they're saying and am always having to have them repeat themself more slowly. My kid is an extremely verbal fast talker and is understandably finding it very frustrating we can't do our usual verbal playing because I can't follow along with what they're saying. I feel terrible about it.
Are there tips or tricks they might be able to learn to speak more slowly and distinctly around their tics so that people listening can better understand what they're saying? Could working with a speech language pathologist help with that? Anything I might be able to do differently about my own listening to be able to better catch what they're saying? I'd appreciate any advice thank you.
