Weather window

Hi everyone,

I have some time off from Sept 26th to October 18th and the Long Trail is on my list of potential things to do. I don't think I'll have time to do the whole thing, but since I've already done the southern 1/3 (I thru hiked the AT in 2025), I figure I should be able to do the other 2/3.

I'm just curious about the weather and social aspect that time of year. One of my favorite parts of the AT was how social it was. Will I get to see lots of other people? Would the weather be comparable to the southern portion of the AT in March (I have a 20 degree quilt, would that be warm enough?)? Are there benefits in going NOBO or SOBO (was thinking the weather might be better SOBO, but the social aspect might be better NOBO?)? Anything else I should know?

Thanks!

Liv Avail SL 2018

Hi everyone!

Beginner cyclist here looking to purchase my first road bike. I've used hybrid bikes my whole life (currently have a Liv Rove) that I ride on a local rail to trail.

I found a local listing for a Liv Avail SL 2018 XS. Would this be a good first road bike for someone who would like to start training for a Ironman 70.3?

Also, how does a person go about making sure the bike fits? I'm 5'2.5" and, according to the size chart would fit either an XS or a S (my Rove is a S and I think it fits ok? But I'm not sure I know enough to know if its the right size or not 😅). What should I be looking out for in terms of fit when I go try it out?

Also, what would a fair price be for this bike if its in good condition?

Any thing else I should know or should be on the lookout for? Anything you wish you knew when you were starting out with a road bike?

Thanks 😊

FHSA Question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about qualifying withdrawals from an FHSA. I'm going to be closing on a new build in the next few weeks, and I need to access my FHSA funds to close.

When I went to Wealthsimple to make the withdrawal, one of the questions asked whether I have a signed contract with an address and a closing date before October of next year. My current contract doesn't have an address (it's a prefab) or a closing date.

Do you think that if I had them create an updated contract that includes the address where the house is being delivered, along with a tentative closing date, that would be enough? I don't think I'll know the exact closing date until a couple of days before closing, which would be too late to withdraw the funds.

Thanks!

My New Favorite Breakfast

Greek Yogourt Bowl

175g Plain Greek Yogourt

17g Protein Powder

145g starwberries

2 Graham Crackers

261 calories and 32g of protein!

I started off mixing in some cool whip with the yogourt, because I have never been able to eat just plain greek yogourt. Turns out the protein powder is sweet enough that I don't even need the cool whip.

Does anyone have any work shoe recommendations? Looking for shoes with a wide or "anatomical" toe box (Topo, Altra, etc.).

I've been wearing Brooks Addiction Walkers for the past couple of years and, while they are fine, they squish my toes. I really want something that will let my toes splay naturally.

Has anyone found anything that works? We technically have a shoe policy, but it's not enforced. That being said, I have spilled blood and methanol on my shoes before, so I would prefer something that's leather (or at least waterproof).

Thanks!
