My son is getting married and it is both his and his soon to be wife's second marriage. They already own a house together and are raising kids from their first marriages together. My husband and I want to give them a monetary gift but I can't decide how much to give. I go back and forth on different amounts from $500 to $1,000. My question is, if you were in my son's situation, what would you expect as a gift? I don't want to disappoint him.

Edit: I wanted to add that they are not having a wedding, they are just going to get married and then having a small, intimate party to celebrate with just immediate family.
