Will an Allegheny Serviceberry Actually Grow to 40 Feet in a Twin Cities Yard? (Worth it Over Autumn Brilliance?)

Our city is receiving a grant this fall for people to get free trees for their yards. One of the options is the Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry.

I have been wanting a serviceberry for a long time. It's a native tree species, great for smaller city yards, and apparently one of the best species you can plant for local wildlife. As such, I spent a lot of time researching the different varieties.

The one thing I have been stopping at is that the Autumn Brilliance seems to top out at 25 feet tall, where I am reading some sources that say an Allegheny Serviceberry can reach up to 40 feet, while others say it also will only reach about 25 feet.

I was hoping more experienced native growers could give me some answers. Would an Allegheny Serviceberry have any chance of reaching 40 feet just in someone's yard, or am I more likely to top out at 25 feet? Would there be no difference in height between this and the Autumn Brilliance?

How to Tell if a Toilet Needs Replacing

Our upstairs toilet has a clog we have not been able to get rid of. We have tried plunging and Green Goblin, but neither have worked.

I want to call a plumber, but my husband is wondering if we need a new toilet. The problem is I have no idea how to tell if this is a "call a plumber to snake the toilet" problem, or "we need a completely new toilet" problem.

What should the next step be?

English Lavender: Perennial in Zone 5a?

I have seen so many people talk about how hard it is to keep lavender as a perennial in Minnesota, if not outright impossible.

I'm in the Twin Cities - so zone 5a - and I keep seeing how it is possible to keep English Lavender as a perennial in our grow zone. But I wanted to see if anyone here has actually been successful in doing it before I invest all the time and the efforts.

Does anyone have any success stories or advice?
