Mum moving
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone can help with some advice about Universal Credit.
My mum currently claims Universal Credit (not the housing element). She’s moving out of the place she currently lives and will be moving in with me and my husband in our 1 bed flat in a different county because she needs somewhere to stay.
She won’t be claiming housing element if she lives with us. She also won’t be paying us any rent.
She will be contacting the council to see what they say, and she mentioned about maybe telling them she will in with my husband and I. We both work.
I’m trying to understand:
What are the actual chance of the council saying yes to this?
Is there anything my husband and I need to be aware of as the tenants?
If it goes ahead will the landlord know she lives with us if not paying or on tenancy agreement?
My mum says it will be fine but I’m a bit of a worrier.
Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated. Thank you!
Edit: Just to clarify, my mum will be moving in with me and my husband into our 1-bed rented flat. She claims Universal Credit (no housing element) and won’t be paying rent or bills to us. I’m trying to understand how this might affect her UC claim and whether there are any implications for us as tenants/household members.
