I think its pretty clear to anyone that has listened to experimental/abstract hip hop within the last couple of years that there's a very clear musical style within those 2 genres that can be differentiated from the rest of the music within these genres that has originated from people like Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE and Cities Aviv and the entire sLUms scene/movement in general.

The genre consists of beats that contain very hazy and lo-fi sample loops that often make use of glitching/pitch manipulations of the samples. While not always being the case the samples are often soul samples/jazz samples and the beats are very clear influenced by Hypnagogic Pop, Neo-Soul and sound collage.

Rapping wise the flows tend to be very liquid and unpredictable often leaning into the experimental side with abstract lyrics.

When i tried to propose this "genre" addition me and previous people ran into the following issues:

  1. Lack of clear name - currently there's no unanimous name for this style of rap, within my years listening to this genres I've heard the names "Hypnagogic Hip Hop", "sLUms sound"/"sLUms rap", "Lo-NY" and "Avant-Garde Hip Hop" but none of these terms have been widely accepted across the community and none of these terms has a clear origin either.
  2. No clear definition - There isn't really a set in stone definition for this style. Even though i tried to give me own rendition of it there could be someone else with a slightly definition as there are no clear criterions/rules that a release must follow to be included in this style.
  3. No sources - There are barely any sources out there that use these terms and define them, possibly due to all the releases in this genre (excluding Some Rap Songs by Earl Sweatshirt) gaining no mainstream attention at all.
  4. No clear origin/History - This genre has pretty much 0 documentation on it, and there's no clear starting point to this style. While most people credit this style to the sLUms movement (which is a movement that currently doesn't exist on RYM which makes it even harder), the earliest release that i can think of that fit my description are Black Pleasure by Cities Aviv but its not a 1 to 1 match and its relation to the style of hip hop im thinking of is slightly similar to Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1's relation to Vaporwave in the way that both of these releases follow core principles of their respective genres and serve as a basis to the genre but the style would go on to be slightly altered and developed.

If anyone could help me with these issues to get this style onto RYM it would be greatly appreciated.

I know the charts update weekly but i wonder how much time would it take for such a discrepancy between the placement in the song page and the actual charts considering the fact that 2 ratings will probably not affect the score that much
