I head off to see if The Inhumans or The Watcher will take me back to Earth, as I crash landed in an Avengers space pod

I know I'm not an X-Man. I don't really do much over here aside from Squirrel Club. I'm much more comfortable with The Avengers.

What I am, however, is a mutant. I know the problems our people face. I've seen it. I was on Genosha when it got attacked a few months ago. I saw the terror in the eyes of everyone present.

I've almost always been the type to try and talk it out first and only kick butts when the talking goes sour. I've made friends with cosmic devourers, chaos deities, hero hunters, and my own amalgam clone daughter who said she was going to eat me.

I'm not saying we should be pacifists. I won't ever tell you that. Pacifism can get you a long way, but when you gotta fight, you gotta fight. That's the same idea Emma Frost is putting out.

Emma and I don't always see eye to eye on things, but this time we do. We need to make sure we talk stuff out before we act. If we just go head-first into a battle that could've ended before it began, then we're doing a disservice to ourselves. I don't want people, especially the kids at this school, to possibly die because they decided that talk was cheap.

Communication is one of the most important things in this world. I hope everyone can recognize that.

As I ponder my birthday agenda, I get a call on the phone. It's from the number labelled "Mama" in my contacts.

"Hey, baby squirrel! Happy birthday!" I hear the voice of both of my parents come over the phone.

"Oh, of course, sweetie!" My mom replies.

"Are you doing ok, Pumpkin?" My dad asks.

Yeah! I'm doing great! I'm gonna be trying to take it somewhat easy today, but you know how superhero work goes.

"We wish we could be there to see you today, Pumpkin, but the airport got destroyed in the attacks. They seem to be rebuilding pretty fast though, so that's good!"

I decided that was a little boring and went with today not only because it's a bit more interesting than just saying "It's July 1st" and calling it a day, but also because today would've been my IRL father's b-day, so I wanted to honor his memory a bit in this way)
