7 Day Price Match Policy

Hi r/TelstraAustralia

I'm a little shocked by what I've just witnessed/been told in chat and am curious to see what others have experienced in this space.

As some may know, the Pixel 11 series went live for pre-order this morning. After considering options, I landed on wanting the Pixel 11 Pro XL 512gb on a 36 month payment plan. After taking a quick look around at what options and pre-order offers were around, I noticed that whilst Telstra is offering $650 off, Optus is offering $1000 off the device.

I reached out to Telstra via chat and asked if they have a price match policy, which they confirmed they do! Great news! But naturally, it wasn't that easy.

The policy only applies for up to 7 days after the device has been received and cannot be applied at the time of ordering (something about being because the IMEI number is required as part of the claim). Okay, painful but not a deal breaker that I have to come back once I've received it to do the thing.

I then asked the rep to confirm that once this had been logged that I'd be eligible for this price match and that I'd read the T's & C's correctly. Unfortunately they refused to confirm that this purchase would be eligible as "It isn't intended as a pre-purchase price approval or a way to compare prices before deciding whether to proceed with an order". Sorry what?!? Okay, so I can order the device, receive it, log a claim and be rejected and left paying the higher price? Apparently that is correct.

I then asked if there was a policy that allowed me to return the device should the claim be rejected. Of course not. They were happy to let me churn away rather than provide any type of assurance other than "there is nothing that would immediately disqualify you from being eligible for a price match claim".

Whilst I don't live in an area where I'm limited to using Telstra, I do frequent locations that significantly benefit from having a Telstra service available but for the sake of a few hundred dollars (and the principal of it) it seems worthwhile to question my loyalty.

I'm looking to see what people's experience is with this policy? In particular price matching against another telco on a payment plan

TIA
