Need help buying a bike in Karachi
Hi everyone! I am looking to buy a bicycle in Karachi for a daily commute of about 6-8 km one way and for Sunday long rides.
Since I'm just starting out, I’m not looking to spend six figures yet—I want to see if I can sustain the motivation first. My budget is around 50,000 PKR, so I am looking at the imported bikes market right now. I haven't physically visited any markets yet, but I've heard Jackson Market (near Keamari) have good imported options.
I've done a bit of reading and heard that the Giant Escape series (or similar hybrids from Trek/Specialized) are great for daily city commutes.
I would love some advice from the community on a few things:
- Sizing: How do I figure out the right frame size for my height so I don't end up with body aches during a daily commute?
- Authenticity: How can I inspect a bike at places like Jackson Market to ensure it’s a genuine Giant frame and not just a local frame with a fake sticker? Where is the serial number usually located?
- Parts & Maintenance in Karachi: How is the availability of spare parts (specifically hybrid tires, tubes, and brake pads) for these international brands? Where are the best shops in Karachi to get maintenance done or buy parts?
Any suggestions on reliable used-bike dealers or tips on what to look out for during a physical inspection would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
