Something about season 2 that frustrates me.

Elena learns about the ritual with Klaus and decides she is willing to die so that her loved ones will be safe, right?

The problem is that from pretty early on she knew that the ritual also required a werewolf and a vampire to be sacrificed and she knew that Caroline and Tyler were the intended sacrifices(I can’t remember if she specifically knew about Tyler, but she did know about Caroline for sure from Katherine). So her not wanting to fight or look for a way out of it doesn’t just mean she will die. She’s agreeing to others dying too by going along with it, and she knows that her friends are the ones that are planned on being used. I’m always frustrated that when she’s at the cabin with Stefan and he’s trying to convince her to fight and to live that he doesn’t bring up that it wouldn’t just be her dying.

When she makes her deals with Elijah it obviously didn’t include getting Tyler and Caroline out of it too since they are still the ones about to be used until the last minute. I don’t think anyone in the group warns Caroline or Tyler(I know he was out of town and maybe hard to get ahold of), and the only reason Caroline and Tyler don’t die in the ritual is because Damon rescued them, and even that was just to try to postpone the ritual because he screwed up and forced his blood on Elena. Like yes, if Damon hadn’t interfered then Jenna would be alive, but Caroline and Tyler would both be dead instead.

TLDR: It frustrates me that so much of the story of season 2 is about Elena’s decision to let herself die to save others, when the whole time it actually still meant that others were going to die if the ritual happened, and she and the others knew that.

The writers made Stefan a bit of a hypocrite when it came to Damon and the cure in season 6.

At the start of the whole cure saga in season 4 Rebekah asks Stefan if he'd take the cure if he had the chance and he tells her "If it meant that I got to be with her(Elena), have children, grow old with her. If it meant that we'd die together, be buried together, then yes, I'd take the cure". He's basically saying that he would take it just for Elena/to be with her.

Then in season 6 he tells Damon the opposite and says "you can't do this for me or for her. You have to want to be human for yourself". I don't think Stefan should have been surprised or upset that Damon would want to take it to be with Elena. If anything he should understand why he wanted to do it. I get why Elena wanted to make sure he had really thought it out, but Stefan was acting like he wouldn't have done the same thing in his shoes.

-AKA the writers decided him trying to convince Damon not to take it was more important than being consistent with Stefan's past character.

I don’t remember what I thought the first time I saw it, but her and Matt are close all of season 3 and they have several one on one moments and talks. Caroline even pulls Matt aside to talk near the end of the season and tells him to be careful because Elena is basically spoken for either way. I wondered if there was anyone who watched and thought that she might not pick Stefan or Damon and instead get back together with Matt.

I’ve had discussions and disagreements about both of these things, and even changed my own mind on some details after rewatching and thinking about it, but I’m curious to hear what others think about a couple of questions.

  1. Do you think that Stefan had his humanity off when he was in Chicago in the 1920’s with Klaus and Rebekah? Why or why not?
  2. Do you think that Damon had his humanity off(or that it was at least only just starting to come back) at the start of season 1? Why or why not?

-Most importantly to me: If yes to one, but not the other, why?

It makes sense that they would fly just like everyone else, but I don’t know why anytime they mention they’ve been on a plane my brain goes “lol what? No you didn’t”.

I don’t have a good reason, and maybe it’s just because it’s not something we ever see them do. Or maybe the thought of these serious supernatural beings going through airport security and sitting on a plane watching movies like everyone else just doesn’t fit with my own narrative of the show, but it always catches me off guard. Maybe I just have a hard time imagining them in scenarios that are so mundane and normal compared to what they usually do on the show. 🤣

Is this just me? Are there any other examples of things that the characters mention doing that we don’t see that makes you feel this way?
