Why I treat NGS screenshots as "Raw Materials" for Digital Art (Before & After)

Hi everyone my speech might sound a bit robotic because I used Google Translate

Recently, I had a discussion regarding art styles in our community. The person I was talking with views things from a "Purist approach," while I stand firmly in the "Digital Art/Editing approach." Because of that, I wanted to share my personal perspective and the behind-the-scenes process of my latest artwork.

To clear things up, here is how I see the difference between the two styles:

The Purist Group: They believe the charm of creating game screenshots lies in maximizing the game's potential under the given conditions. To them, those who excel at in-game lighting, styling, and finding the perfect camera angles are the ones who truly appreciate the art.

The Digital Art/Editing Group: We view in-game photographs as mere "raw materials" or starting points, then use external tools like Photoshop to fulfill an imagination that the game itself cannot provide.

When I look at NGS, I don’t just see a game to take casual screenshots in; I see an incredible toolkit and asset library for digital art. I love taking a clean, raw screenshot of my character, Shiva, and using it as a foundation to break the boundaries of the game engine, rebuilding a completely new atmosphere in Photoshop.

Looking at the Before & After comparison you can see that my goal was to transform a bright, empty scene into a gritty, dramatic, and intense dark fantasy battlefield. The game engine alone cannot give me realistic blood splatters on the body, flying sparks colliding with the shield, or a chaotic burning castle background under a meteor shower. To bring this imagination to life, I had to carefully manage layers, adjust lighting (Color Balance/Exposure), and fine-tune the color grading.

Whether you prefer the pure in-game photography that finishes right behind the camera, or heavy digital editing, both are valid subgenres of fan art that enrich our community. For me, the real fun begins when I'm bringing ideas to life inside the software.

Thank you to everyone for stopping by to check out my work and sharing your thoughts!

Shiva The Blessed One

This is my second image, and lately I've been particularly into themes related to goddesses or sacred powers, especially those from Europe.

*Tools used: Galaxy S25, Photoshop 2026 (No AI)

I started over with some changes.

Okay, I'm back after being banned for 7 days. I've now deleted all old posts that used AI, regardless of the percentage. I'm starting fresh from today onwards. My images will no longer use AI; I will only use Photoshop and S25. (And I've stopped protesting against Reddit's bots that kept deleting my posts; I was tired of it.)

I'm considering using my new Shiva photo editing tool.

Since many people dislike my use of AI in photo editing, I wondered what program or application would be more efficient or better than what I currently use to edit photos of Shiva to satisfy them. (I should also mention that since my country and company don't have a particular bias against AI, and people in my country and company use AI frequently, especially in video advertisements and brochures, I really don't understand why they're so unhappy about it.) I have about 4 hours of free time after work each day for personal matters, so I mainly use these four tools because they are easy to use and save time:

  1. S25 Ultra: I usually use this app to repair blurry images and enhance sharpness. (It uses AI for image repair, but the downside is that it may slightly distort small details in the image, especially around the model's eyes.)

  2. Photoroom: Its main function is to smoothly crop the model and remove the background. (I often use this app to take photos for employee ID cards.)

  3. Meitu: I mainly use this app for face retouching, body adjustments, and lighting adjustments.

  4. Photoshop 2026 AI: I usually use the AI functions to create backgrounds or adjust the model in the image, such as hair, skin, and clothing. I usually let the AI improve it to look more realistic. However, there are only a few aspects that I can manually adjust, such as using the brush tool to fine-tune hair color or using the wrinkle removal tool, which Meitu can't provide. If there's a program or app that meets the requirement that I can finish editing a photo within 4 hours (this 4 hours includes showering and eating time), I'll try it.

* If this sounds strange to you, it's because I used Google Translate.
