Spanish National Championship - Alliance report

We had 14 people competing today in the Alliance format, with high-powered decks in every table. Prophetic Visions probably led the day both in sheer number of alliances and in their top 4 conversion, but we got representation of Vault Masters 25, Grim Reminders and Aembar Skies (as far as I remember).

Lorenzo Y. Paleari won the tournament with Bianchi, 探索者巴巴奇 Ward. A monster of a deck that I faced and left me playing 3-card hands several times due to its Rage Resets, just a piece in the terrific machine it is. Long gone is the reign of combo-centric alliances: one trying to play Lateral Shift again and again through Memettes and similar tricks barely got top 8, and the AS one around keeping an immortal Akugyo on the board didn't manage to get there. The kings are dead, long life to the PV kings that are just overwhelmingly efficient and disruptive. Plain and simple, but terribly good at that.

You may check Lorenzo's alliance here: https://decksofkeyforge.com/alliance-decks/8a12d40c-ad47-49a6-b734-53c000b50c8b

Overall it was a fantastic day. We are very happy to have the Italian delegation with us and will do our best to keep at least one of the Champion playmats in Spain! 😄

Hong Kong decks in the Spanish National Championship!

Fellow Hong Kong players, do you have the two Spanish decks missing from our NC box? 🤣 If so, enjoy our flag in them! 🇪🇦

We're giving them out to the Archon and Sealed winners, our tournament with the most attendees. They will get to grab a special souvenir 😊

KeyForge Legends gets to version 1.2

Entering July, a new version of the fanmade unofficial project is released. This time just a couple released cards got adjustments, one of them being just a wording one with no functional change.

As usual, if you want to know more about why these cards got adjusted, head to the latest issue of the newsletter. Both cards are updated to this latest version in the set print-and-play document and their adjustments have been reflected in the changelog.

If you haven't tried KeyForge Legends yet, but the idea giving new life to your old decks by building a deck around some highly synergistic house pods sounds fun to you, this is a good time to get to dust off your CotA decks for it. The first set is in a good spot and, while it may receive further changes in the future, I'm confident enough to say it will give you fun games.

Next month will hopefully see version 2.0 of the project with the release of Age of Legends, the KF Legends set corresponding to Age of Ascension. See you there!

Spanish Nationals Date Announced!

The 2026 Spanish National Championship date is now official: it'll be happening from the 2^(nd) to the 4^(th) of October in Madrid. There will be more details (venue, price, structure, prizing, etc.) coming out as the date approaches, but if any of you would like to come you can now save the days for it!

On behalf of CKFE, the Spanish KeyForge Community, we would like to invite everyone to play along us and discover Madrid in case you do not know the city yet. Some of you may know that we have hosted Vault Tours in 2024 and 2025 collaborating with Asmodee. This year, CKFE is taking the whole organizational side of the event, and it will be a National Championship instead of a Vault Tour to ensure we can offer the best possible experience to all attendees.

People who have attended a Spanish Vault Tour before know that they were hosted in Madrid-adjacent cities. This year, we are hosting the event in Madrid itself, which should make it easier to enjoy it while also sightseeing and enjoying the city. So if you ever thought about visiting, this could be a great moment to do so. Climate-wise, October is also one of the best months to be in the city, and it is not a peak touristy moment of the year so you'll avoid crowds.

Hoping to see as many of you as possible, I'll be coming with more information as soon as it is available. Thanks for your time you all!

Balance changes in KeyForge Legends

The fanmade unofficial format I'm developing has gone under its first changes due to what playtesting has found. This includes a couple of buffs and nerfs, several small tweaks and a major redesign (featured in the images in this post).

The changes are already implemented in the cards available for print-and-play. If you were interested, every update can be found in the newly released Changelog and you can read (a lot) more about them and the reasoning behind each change in the last issue of the newsletter.

New versions with this kind of updating will release the 1^(st) of every month in which there are corrections to make. The first ones after each release will probably be bigger like this one, with next iterations being much smaller. I will be posting about them here when they happen to keep anyone interested (and not suscribed to the newsletter) in the loop.

Thanks for your interest!

KeyForge Legends Newsletter Out Now

A couple weeks after releasing KF Legends first set, which was pretty well received in this subreddit, I have finally composed the newsletter about its design and development. You can check every number in here forever: https://kflegends.substack.com/

The newsletter will come out (if everything goes according to plan) every Monday. It should be around a 5-minute read, with its first part talking more broadly about game design and its applications in both KeyForge and KF Legends and a second part analyzing different specific Legend cards. Why is their design as it is, how was their design process, which impact do they have on the broader design system, etc.

The first number can be read here, and I am genuinely happy to have new suscribers and will love to receive Substack ❤️, comments and any other form of interaction. This is all free and I will not be spamming about it every week, this is a one-time thing around here. So if it sounds like something you'd enjoy reading to start your week, be welcome to join!

See you all!

KeyForge Legends first set released!

KeyForge Legends is an unofficial alternative game format for KeyForge inspired by the Commander game format for Magic: the Gathering. It is, in many ways, Keymander's offspring... but with its own twists in fundamental aspects of the format.

You can check all the information about it here. It's development is being handled in sets akin to the official KeyForge sets, in part because of that allowing an optimal experience when playing this sealed. The first set being released, Call of the Legends, corresponds to the original Call of the Archons and is available in print-and-play from the link above.

Also, as this is very much a way to let creativity flow around a game that I love, I'm launching a newsletter around this project. Once a week, more or less, I intend on releasing a new issue discussing different design-themed aspects of the project, getting into details and card-by-card design diaries. So if you wanna receive some more KeyForge-related and/or game design-related content in your inbox, I'd LOVE it if you suscribed to it here.

Thank you all for your time and every piece of feedback you can provide. It is invaluable for me as I continue developing the project.
