Opinions on coaching an employee the day after their 3yr old sisters funeral
Yes, you read the title correctly. I have an associate who has been sleeping through their lunch and sometimes taking 2hrs or more without informing us ahead of time which then causes us to scramble . They are also being outworked by other associates 3x their age on a consistent basis since I started as TL. They have already been coached before after multiple written and verbal DA's, but they're due for another one.
My issue is that their 3yr old half sister passed recently and my coach told me to coach them the next day they're back, which just so happens to be the day after the funeral. I told my coach that I refuse to do it the day after because it just seems like a completely reprehensible thing to do. I know it's part of the business, but it just doesn't sit right with me. They have never met the sister as she lived in another state, but they told me they are currently grieving the potential relationship he could've had with her which is still completely valid to me.
I asked another TL about it and they said it would be inhuman to do it the day after. I'm pretty sure I know what most of the responses on here will be because I like to think that most people have a similar mindset to mine, but I'm still looking for more opinions.
Edited to add more details to the post.
Update: I spoke with my coach and I think I have convinced them to give me some time to help my associate work through things. We will be sitting the associate down and having a heart to heart whenever they work again. Thank you for everyone who actually offered help instead of just telling me I'm a worthless TL when I'm honestly trying to do right by my associate.
