the meta in paying for college

as a rising senior who has so far won >35k in scholarships, competitions are the meta. you can win huge amounts of money from competitions that can put a huge dent in the cost of college. i’m not going to say which ones i’ve done so i don’t get doxxed, but things like quiz bowl-esque comps w prize money or essay competitions are definitely the move

jack of all trades vs “heavy spike”

people love talking about having a “heavy spike” to show you’re rlly good at something or have a rlly niche interest or smth. but, what are the benefits of being a jack of all trades? wouldn’t that be just as good for college apps? like i have ECs w impact across a few areas or interests along w awards in different disciplines than my ECs. does this demonstrate “intellectual curiosity” or am i a chud? i get why it’s useful to have someone that’s super centered, but especially at schools that are very well rounded (stanford, princeton, etc. and t20s that are high quality and specific but still are “liberal arts” esque in that they require a broad spectrum of things from undergrads who attend) is it just as good/better to be involved in lots of things?
