My family makes me feel so loved

There's an old saying that "to be loved is to be known," and today that just really hit me. I mean I complain about and argue with my family as much as anybody else, but it's days like today that really make me feel loved because of how well my family knows me, specifically my mom.

For some background, I'm a huge anime fan. Been watching anime since I was a child, and it was actually my parents who introduced it to me. Everyone in my family (aside from my younger sister) loves anime in one way or another, we all have different favourites, but we love anime. A couple of my all time favourites are ones I watched with my parents or older ones they introduced me to.

Anyways, today there was an event going on in my city. It was a local anime themed event that was going to have a ton of local artists and other vendors, as well as a cosplay showcase, and other stage events. But I mostly wanted to go shop for stuff to add to my collection; keychains, pins, prints, figures, etc.

I asked my younger brother on Friday if he wanted to go with me, but he had plans to go out of town and couldn't go. I didn't ask my sister because I know these kinds of events aren't really her thing and she already had plans. Later Friday night while watching a show with my mom, I mentioned that I would be going to this event Saturday alone because no one else could make it. I said I'd go to bed earlier and go to the event first thing to check it out and come home. Without thinking my mom said she could go with me.

I asked if she was sure she wanted to go, not because I doubted she wanted to go, but because she has health issues, so walking around for several hours surrounded by people could be a challenge. But she insisted she would go with me and I said alright. I was worried she might cancel last minute because her health can be unpredictable, she could wake up feeling sick and not be able to go. But thankfully when I woke up she was feeling pretty good and ready to go.

When we got there we walked around together for an hour or so and chatted with vendors, checking things out. I told her about my strategy and said I'd look at everything first and then decide if I wanted to buy anything. She asked me what series I was looking for things for and she said she'd keep an eye out for me. But eventually she wanted to split up and look at other stuff. I didn't want to be left alone but I said alright. We agreed to meet back up in a bit.

While looking around by myself I spotted a print of my favourite character of all time, and it was the only print of that character I had seen today. I made a mental note to come back and then kept looking for a bit. But I was a little anxious to meet back up with my mom. After a little more looking around, I called her and we met up.

When we met up I noticed she had a print, and it looked familiar. It was art from the same artist I was going to go buy from. So I commented on it, telling her "oh, I was going to go back to buy a different print from that guy." She laughed, pulling a second print out from behind the first one.

It was the print I was going to buy. She laughed and told me it was going to be a Christmas gift but that the surprise was spoiled since she didn't want me to go buy another one.

It just made me incredibly happy knowing that my mom knows me so well. Even for the rest of the time we were there she would point out things she knew I liked. She even pointed out characters that she didn't know (because she hadn't watched the anime) but she knew I liked them.

She even knew about how I preferred art of an older version of an anime to the newer one and called me over when she found an artist selling prints of the older version. She also remembered that I was going to buy a keychain and I almost forgot about it.

The whole day just made me feel loved and understood. My mom even listened to me ramble about anime she's never watched while we were driving home after the event.

I just feel so lucky to have my mom. As frustrating as she can be sometimes, she makes me feel so loved and understood, and above all else, when she doesn't understand she does her best to ask questions in order to understand.

If any parents, or future parents read this, ask your kids questions and get involved in their hobbies. It really does make children feel understood. And to be loved is to be known.

Need help finding a car rental company

Me and some friends are going on a trip out of town in late August and since I'm the only one with a license, getting us a vehicle is my responsibility. However, I only got my license in late May so I need to find a company that will rent a vehicle to me even though I haven't had a license for a year. I've heard the big companies are more strict about their rules, so if anybody knows a local place or a company that rents vehicles to people who have had their license under a year please let me know.

TIFU by popping a huge pimple

So this is definitely embarrassing but thankfully nobody I know in real life knows about my reddit account, so I feel pretty safe sharing some of my more embarrassing moments.

Anyways, I've heard mixed things about what to do with pimples, but I just can't resist the urge to pop pimples when I spot them. Maybe it's related to my skin picking problems but I just can't seem to leave scabs and pimples alone. Today while in the bathroom getting ready for bed I noticed a weird pimple on my boob. It looked like one of those pimples that wasn't quite ready to pop, but the skin around it looked kind of bruised and it was raised quite a lot. For some reason instead of just leaving it be I became determined to pop this boob pimple.

So I start squeezing as hard as I can to pop it and eventually it bursts. Violently. Blood and whatever else was in that pimple shot out and hit my glasses. I clean up my glasses and finish getting ready for bed, thinking about how crazy that pimple pop was. As I'm brushing my teeth I notice some splatter got on the mirror and quickly cleaned it up. After finding splatter on the mirror I decided to more thoroughly check the bathroom for anymore blood to clean up.

I scan the bathroom and eventually look up. That's when I see it. The pimple burst so violently I got blood on the fucking ceiling. Now my short ass has to find a stool and somehow clean blood off the ceiling. Fuck my life.

TL;DR:

I popped a huge pimple on my boob and the splatter hit the ceiling.

Update:

Wasn't expecting so many people to see this but I'll keep the update short. First of all thank you for all of the concern, but it's been a couple days now and so far it's healing like a pimple would. No signs of infection or any pain but I'm keeping it clean. I don't love going to the doctor so I haven't yet, but if anything changes I'll be sure to get it checked out. Also thanks to everyone who shared embarrassing similar stories in the comments, makes me feel a little better about it. Finally, someone had mentioned my post reads like AI, I promise it's not. I just write a lot in my spare time so my writing is a bit wordy and I like to tell stories in an interesting way. I also have a picture of the aftermath on the ceiling which I can maybe put in the comments (not sure how reddit works lol)? Anyways that's all.

TIFU by judging an anime without watching any of it

I finished watching Dr. Stone today and was looking for a new anime to watch. I probably could've chosen to finish one of the many animes I've started but haven't finished but I really wanted to start something new. I don't know why, but Oshi No Ko popped into my head and I decided to search for it on Crunchyroll.

I didn't actually know much of anything about it besides it having something to do with idols and that there were twins. But I always assumed I wouldn't like it because I haven't watched and enjoyed any other idol anime. I was also pretty sure I heard some weird things about it online at some point and just decided I would never watch it. Anyways, after searching it up and reading the description it actually sounded interesting, so I figured I'd watch one episode and see how I feel.

Little did I know the first episode was almost an hour and a half long, but I figured if I didn't like it I just wouldn't finish it. Contrary to my expectations I loved the first episode, and the premise had me super interested and invested in the plot. Next thing you know I couldn't stop watching.

Now I'm writing this at 5am after binge watching Oshi No Ko for probably 7 or 8 hours. I'm almost done with the second season and now I feel bad that I had such a negative view of the show and hadn't given it a chance until now. I'm enjoying watching it so much that now I'm just hoping that it doesn't eventually disappoint me somehow. But I guess this has opened my eyes, maybe I'll branch out and try watching more genres. Maybe I'll finally give mecha anime a try (I've only watched Code Geass and like four episodes of Evangelion).

Moral of the story is I should probably give more things a try before forming an opinion. Makes me wish I could apologize to all the Oshi no Ko fans I probably called weird a few years ago when the anime was at the peak of it's popularity. Oh and please no spoilers in the comments, I'm enjoying seeing how the story is unfolding spoiler free!

TL;DR

I tried watching Oshi No Ko after years of swearing I'd never watch it because there's no way I'd enjoy it and it probably isn't good, I'm now eating my words. I can't stop binge watching it.
