Man arrested for attempted murder after ramming victims’ car
A 24-year-old Mentone man was arrested for attempted murder Friday, Oct. 2, after a domestic dispute turned violent and the suspect rammed his vehicle into the victims’ vehicle.
Giovanni Efrain Pelayo discovered his ex-girlfriend and a friend sitting in their vehicle in a parking lot in the 1700 block of E. Lugonia Avenue Friday evening. He approached the victims and began to argue with them while attempting to force his way into the vehicle. He then jumped onto the hood of the vehicle, damaging it, before the victims were able to drive away.
Pelayo pursued the vehicle in his own car, locating them in front of the Redlands Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 5th Street and then ramming the vehicle with his car.
The victims again drove away, followed by Pelayo. During the pursuit, Pelayo collided with another uninvolved vehicle on Reservoir Road. The victims eventually stopped at a public location and called police.
Pelayo fled and abandoned his vehicle near Moore Middle School in the 1500 block of East Highland Avenue.
Police located the suspect at his home in Mentone, and he was arrested without further incident. He is currently in custody at the San Bernardino County Central Jail in lieu of $1 million bail on charges of attempted murder, domestic violence and vandalism.
