Newborn care classes for doulas

Hi everyone,
I 26 F am a newly certified birth and postpartum doula. I am wanting to work as mostly a birth doula but have some questions about doing postpartum care. I see a lot of jobs for overnight postpartum care or daytime care for newborns. I’d love to be able to take positions like this but am afraid my experience with newborns is too limited. I have never cared for a newborn without someone telling me what to do. The class I took to become certified was very vague and didn’t dive too much into specific newborn care. I was wondering if anyone had taken newborn care classes or continuing education classes that helped prepare them for postpartum shifts. I am in the Portland Oregon area if that helps. Thank you so much.

Clients not communicating after birth

I am in a program where we contract with a hospital and do on call shifts. You don’t meet the clients beforehand. You just show up if you are requested. The problem I am having is that when I go to check in with the client at least 24 hrs after the birth, they do not respond. I don’t want to be pushy but get the sense that they just want me for the birth which is fine. How many times would you follow up before you moved on?

Contracts

Hi all,
I am a newer doula and am trying to write my contract. The problem I am running into is I am unsure of what to put in my contract. I work with Medicaid patients as well as private insurance and private pay. I am trying to come up with a missed appointment clause but I am having trouble. In my state you can’t charge Medicaid patients for missed appointments. How do you ensure that clients actually respect your time?
Secondly, I want to know what to put in my contract and if you had a lawyer or professional look over it.
Thirdly, did you have a part where you talk about reasons you would discharge a client or do you just wait till it comes up? I want to make sure I have all my bases covered.
Thank you for your help.
