I’ve been getting back into retro gaming over the last year, mostly through the retro game collections sold on the Switch and playing my older games Gameboy and Gameboy Advance on my Analogue Pocket.

But I kept wanting more of that old-school feeling of actually picking out a game and having something physical to play and collect again alongside my still cherished handheld collections and switch carts.

So I bought the Rare Super Pocket just to try Evercade out. I actually played it for a while before buying much else because I wanted to make sure I genuinely liked the games, the design, the cartridges, and just the overall feel of it.

Turns out I did.

I bought a couple of carts and once I knew I wanted to stick with it and, well, things escalated.

My wife saw the Capcom Super Pocket when I was watching some YT videos about Evercade and mentioned that it had games she remembered playing as a kid and that would be the one she’d want.

So I ordered her that one as a surprise.

I think I can say I’m fully in now. I’ll be on the lookout for games we remember or want to try out.

And I want to thank the community here even if this is my first post. You all have shared so much information and realistic expectations. Your recommendations were also really important.

I bought a used copy of F1 2011 on a whim and dug out my old 3DS. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

The 3D effect while you're driving is actually a cool concept. It can feel like you're looking into the cockpit and down the track. I know not everyone enjoys the 3D effect, but I think it's worth trying at least once. If you play in VR you're already way more immersed than me.

The career mode was also a nice surprise. I expected a stripped down handheld version, but it's actually pretty deep and has a lot more to it than I expected (tryouts, contract offers from competing teams, practice sessions, qualifying, contract and point expectations).

It has become my favorite way to get a few races in before bed. I just grab the 3DS and run a few laps after a long day.

I'd definitely recommend tracking down a copy, especially if you enjoy handhelds. Oh... and the drivers are all current... for 2011. Lewis Hamilton on McLaren and Alonso driving the classic red after that little scandal. Good times.
