Need a good home for an Edison disc machine
The machine is in excellent playing condition...
...but the exterior of the cabinet has problems.
Hello, I am brand-new to this group. I'm in the stage of life when it's time to start getting rid of some things. Sadly, that includes the Edison talking machine pictured above. I've had it, and some 40-50 discs that came with it, for more than 50 years, and I don't want these things to just be junked. So, I have a question/offer. What is the best way for me to find a good home for them, an auctioneer or some other place? By the way, I'm not looking to sell them; they are FREE to a good home.
As the captions state, the machine plays the discs just fine; there are "issues" with the cabinet, however: Because of an accident while moving between houses, the lid came off and needs a bit of repair to be reattached and, as the photo shows, the exterior suffered a poor restoration job many years ago.
The records themselves are kind of what one might expect from Edison. A lot of popular and novelty songs, mostly from the 1920s, including perhaps my all-time favorite song title "As the porcupine pines for its pork, that's how I pine for you" by Billy Jones and Ernest Hare, AKA The Happiness Boys. And then there is the weirdest song title I've come across, "Santa Claus Hides in Your Phonograph" (on the reverse side of which is "The Christmas Cobweb.")
OK, if anyone in this group has some good ideas of where to find someone who would like all these gems, please let me know. I am brand-new to Reddit, so I don't know how folks can communicate to each other, except I see there is a Chat feature.
Great thanks for your help and advice!
