10 to 15% of gang members are White what kind of gangs are they?

We all know about black and latino gangs and even Asian gangs but white gangs aren't as talked about as much and I'm interested in a discussion on this 10 to 15%.

I asked ChatGPT about White street gangs that aren't white supremacist.

I asked ChatGPT about White street gangs that aren't white supremacist

This is a subject I've been curious about for a while I have this idea about a story that revolves around white gangs that aren't white supremacist bikers or in prison basically street gangs but I wanted it to at least be grounded in reality.

but whenever I searched for white gangs I get white supremacists bikers and prison gangs I wanted to know more about simple street gangs so I asked the chat multiple times and these are some of the consistent answers I got.

White street gangs

Local neighborhood gangs involved in crimes such as drug distribution, theft, robbery, and assault. Many are independent and do not have a national presence.

White street gangs are local neighborhood gangs whose membership is predominantly White. Unlike large nationwide gangs such as the Bloods or Crips, most White street gangs are small, independent, and limited to a particular town, county, or region.

Organization & Structure:

Typically loosely organized.

Often revolve around territory, local cliques, or school neighborhoods.

Smaller membership per gang (10–50 members common), sometimes up to 100 in larger towns.

Criminal Activity:

Primarily drug dealing, theft, vandalism, and low-level assaults.

Less involved in large-scale organized crime or violent street wars than urban Hispanic/Black gangs.

Examples:

Local “neighborhood crews” or town-based gangs.

Some are ethnically homogeneous, others mix with other White or multiracial members.

When I did the numbers they usually came back as the majority of white gang members I asked if they were numerically bigger why do we not hear more often about them compared with white supremacist biker and prison gangs and here's what it said.

That’s an interesting observation. White street gangs are often less visible nationally than some other gang categories, even though they may make up a large share of White gang members. A big reason is that many of them are small, local, and fragmented rather than large organizations with a recognizable national brand.

Why they get less attention

  1. They usually lack a national identity Many White street gangs are neighborhood-based groups that might only have a few dozen members. They do not have the same nationwide recognition as groups like the Crips, Bloods, or Latin Kings.

  2. They are often mixed into other categories Some White gang members are counted under:

local street gangs,

prison gangs,

outlaw motorcycle clubs,

drug crews,

neighborhood crews.

So there is less of a single "White street gang" identity.

  1. Media attention tends to focus on larger or more organized groups Groups with distinctive names, symbols, territories, or national histories are easier to report on. A small local gang in a rural county may receive little national coverage.

Common types of White street gangs

Local neighborhood gangs

Usually the most common type.

Often form around friendships, neighborhoods, schools, or local conflicts.

Can be found in both cities and rural areas.

White prison-linked street gangs Some street gangs have connections to prison gangs. For example, some groups associated with Aryan Brotherhood or Peckerwoods have street-level affiliates.

Biker-influenced crews Some local groups have connections or cultural influence from outlaw motorcycle clubs such as Hells Angels Motorcycle Club or other motorcycle organizations.

Rural and small-town gangs These are particularly overlooked. Some form in areas with fewer large gangs and may be involved in local drug markets or property crimes.

Rough size

Because they are fragmented, there are no exact numbers. But if White people make up roughly 100,000 of the estimated U.S. gang population, most researchers believe a majority are in local street gangs, not famous prison gangs or motorcycle clubs.

So the short version: White street gangs are numerous but usually low-profile. They are less of a "national phenomenon" and more of a collection of many small local groups, which makes them harder for the public to notice.

What you all think of this? I figured a gang encyclopedia subreddit would be interested and have some insight
