Affordable hybrid SUV?

Looking for some recommendations for an affordable & reliable SUV.

I currently drive an older Subaru Forester. I like it, I think the Forester is a good car and it’s the perfect size for me, but the maintenance on mine is starting to add up as I approach 200k miles. The car has had several major repairs (not just basic stuff which I can do myself) needed in the last year alone, plus, the body is fairly rusted out due to being from a cold weather area. With this in mind, I’ve been exploring some options and trying to see what’s out there that could possibly be a replacement.

Before anyone says “why not just get another Forester?” the answer is- because I’d really like a hybrid, and the Forester hybrid imo isn’t great enough range or proven enough reliability to justify dropping $40k on it. If anyone can convince me otherwise though I’m open to different perspectives lol.

So, all that said…any recommendations? I’m absolutely open to buying a reliable used car, or open to buying new, it just depends on the vehicle. FWIW I test drove a Rav4 recently and didn’t love the experience, but I know they’re best selling for a reason, so I won’t write it off entirely. Just was hoping for some other suggestions too.

TIA for your advice!
