Cycle Updates

Hi TMDSAS peeps! I was hoping we could all reply to this post with cycle updates when we get them, mostly because I’m anxious and like hearing how everyone else’s cycle is going. This would include when you were verified, when you submitted secondaries, and what schools you get interviews and when. I’ll start! I was verified 6/15, submitted all secondaries 6/30 + UTMB Video response 7/1.

Secondaries Submitted!

Guys I finally finished and submitted my secondaries for TMDSAS! So now I just wait? Anyone have any information on TMDSAS or updates like if you’ve heard back from schools for interviews or when I should hear back? Thanks!

Anyone else worried about low clinical hours?

It’s kind of frustrating that adcoms expect students to work medical jobs that some people do full time as their lifelong careers just to be considered to understand direct patient care. Some people don’t have time to earn a certification or work some of these typical jobs, like EMT or MA. Especially for traditional students on top of maintaining good grades with difficult classes and other pre-med activities like leadership, volunteering, and research. Like med school is long enough, why should we have to take 1+ gap years to get those clinical hours? I think if you’ve gone through the MCAT and application process, which are hard enough, you want it badly enough and understand. Sooner or later, it will be common for applicants to take 4+ gap years just to be competitive with the standard clinical hours. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Repost TMDSAS Chances 4.0 513

Hi all! Sorry if you already saw this. I’m reposting here since I finally have enough Karma! 💪🏻
________________________________________

CHANCE ME! I am a Texas resident applying this cycle only through TMDSAS.

20 F ORM, graduating in December

I have a 4.0 GPA and 513 MCAT

Awards: 9 scholarships, Dean’s list, President’s list

Non-academic recognition: Girl Scout Gold Award, Phlebotomy Certification, intramural volleyball championships

Leadership: Secretary for two different honors organizations for a year, founded a mentor program for one of the organizations

Research: around 30 hours being a team lead for yeast research, 22 hours doing a literature review in genetics (poster presentation at conference), and oral presentation at conference over my mentor program, and 110 hours doing a summer anatomy program with ending research presentation

Healthcare Activities: 110 hours phlebotomy training and externship (at Hispanic clinic, one full time week), 96 hours as hospital volunteer transporting post operative patients for discharge, 83 hours as volunteer for pediatric rehab clinic helping set up rooms, clean, and facilitate sessions with equipment, 75 shadowing hours across family medicine, emergency, cardiology, and dermatology

Community Engagement: 95 hours for Girl Scout Gold Award project teaching volleyball lessons to kids in crisis in underserved rural area, various on-campus volunteering activities for 20 hours, volunteered for women in medicine day health badge for Girl Scouts for 7 hours, Girl Scout Troop volunteer helping girls with their silver awards for 12 hours, Ronald McDonald house volunteer cooking a meal for families for 5 hours

Extracurriculars: volleyball, baking, pickleball, premed club member

Employment: Daycare assistant teacher, Athletics department stem tutor, STEM and medicine summer camp instructor for kids

I know I don’t have as many hours but I explain this is my optional essay a little about how I graduate high school with my associates so I only had a couple of years in college to gain experience.

Here’s my school list for secondaries (I know it’s not a lot but I’m confident in fitting in with these schools and distance from home):

SHSU-COM (DO)
Texas A&M
UT McGovern
UTMB
UH
UT Tyler
UNT (DO)
UT Southwestern
Long SOM
