A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chp. 198

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chp. 198

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1tiiga8/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_chp_197/

Nothing says victory like Shizuka and Rentarou sharing an ice cream.

Chapter 198: The Theater of Thrills and Violence

Huh, Nemu's actually talking about the date from the last chapter on the roller coaster. So...they actually do matter to the plot. (OK, they all do but nearly all of them don't come back around like this does)

And Rin's...violento senses? Sure that she isn't Carnage cause that's more his thing than Spider-Man.

And she just smiles and...um, Hakari, why are you with Kusuri? Only bad things come of spending any times with Kusuri.

Faceless Rin can be cute; she tends to be.

Look, Rin is always like that, Hakari; it's not something to worry about.

So if she likes roller coasters, she'll like violent movies. Um...A doesn't really lead to B; she may like a roller coaster but there's something different between the thrill of a roller coaster and...zombie apocalypse on the big screen.

It's worth it but...again, A isn't B; you may love roller coasters but hate zombies, and vice versa. Rin's simulated violence is not the same as the immediacy of a rush in the real world.

Yeah, many people don't like violence. And another issue about that is that what you like is "simulated violence depicted in video games and movies"; that's not the same as actual violence in the real world since...well, we saw how you reacted when Rentarou died in your dreams two chapters ago. (ignoring the cult mentality, it does make me wonder how Rin feels about actual violence where people do get hurt and not just simulated violence that can be acted upon or "experienced" in a fictional setting)

Invitations are just an offer; some people don't take it up; that's OK.

Meanwhile after scho...wait, that Pentarou in a stocking cap just reminds me of DeDeDe.

Karane's disturbed; is Ahko invading her purchasing...

Guess Nemu is a stocking-cap Pentarou fan.

And then she just suggests a ribbon for Karane.

But will she buy it?

Woops, I think she shouldn't have tsundere'd leading to a sudden Nemu awakening.

I'M PISSED, YOU'RE COMING WITH ME FOR CREPES, NEMU!

So...did they get the crepes...they're just....out and about...

Oh great, another zombie movie. That's probably been reserved by Rin for the last 6 months.

Is she a fan? I guess it's more about working out what pumps the blood.

I mean it could be the most boring zombie movie ever...saying that not being a fan of "Day of the Dead" here.

"The stadium seats are so comfy and ever since they added recliner options, I just am out before the trailers and by the time I wake up, it's all over!"

Do you take a chance; I mean you could test it with "zombie movies: the home game".

Huh, a night conversation between these two that isn't just random making out.

Yeah they're just kids. They'd be great as someone to help out as friends except...the whole "we're all a cul...Rentarou's Family".

So they bought four tickets. Two...just cause.

Er...are you sure you shouldn't be asking others? I mean there are 28 other options (27 GF + Rentarou), sure any of them wouldn't just want to come along too?

Well, not much else going on so may as well.

And...down goes Nemu even before the lights go down.

Oh great, she's about to do a "I love this too much" drool...QUICK, SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING TO WAKE HER UP!

Sure...violence, let's talk about violence.

Well at least it's a series Rin likes that isn't Resident Evil again.

Er...um...so essentially there are five films...but they're self-contained...despite this being pt. 3 of "the final chapter"...yeah, I'm tired of the way modern movies count their franchise episodes.

Funny thing: American cinema had movie pamphlet's once upon a time sort of like "Playbill" for theater, but we don't anymore.

Though it's for the best we don't see what's in this one.

So to Nemu, it's horrifying and gross but it...wakes her up. I guess that's the point.

I'm not sure any normal people outside really obsessives on gross movies like this would have the same attraction.

At least the others are happy...though do they want to see this themselves?

Movie time!

Do we need profound statements on how horrific zombie monsters make some sort of moral point? Not every horror film has to be "Godzilla" or "Night of the Living Dead", you know.

I think this is the best representation of Rin and Nemu as the film goes on.

Unfortunately...this may be too much for the original girlfriends.

Way...way too much...

Too much that they don't realize the obvious joke about a horror actress.

OK...they're holding hands...this for comfort or...

Well they're united on a certain front...wait...sure it's not "that"?

We're "united"...sure you are...

OH NO, KARANE'S SCREA...soda save!

OH NO, HAKARI'S SCREA...popcorn save!

At least someone likes this theater's snacks.

Don't you hate that "the movie's over...or is it!?" type of scenarios?

And here comes the "Alien" homage!

WE NEED TO ACT MATURE AND STOP SCREAMING; QUICK, PARTNER, DO SOMETH...

I mean...it stops the screaming...

If I let go...I'm going to scream...but if I keep going...

It's not like it matters to Rin or Nemu.

And now we got two middle schoolers going on and on about the whole bloody mess.

And when Rin asks those two...

I mean...they're essentially a couple at this point...

Yeah, keep blaming the other instead of your feelings; you know what the real proof is.

The lies these two keep putting themselves through...

But it was worth it to keep these two happy.

And...well...

RIN WANTS SOMETHING MORE VIOLENT!? HOW VIOLENT IS TOO VIOLENT FOR RIN!?!?

"And we want you two to come with"...at this point they may as well be maids of honor for their wedding...(not to Rentarou, to each other)

Thus invites leads to insults, which leads to challenges and...OH JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY...FOR REAL, NOT BY ACCIDENT!

Review ("newtimer version"): You know for a chapter that is supposed to be about Rin and Nemu, they spent a bit too much time on Hakari and Karane. I mean it does move the former duo but the latter...really they should just give up Rentarou altogether and move in with each other.

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts):  >!This chapter just feels like a mess; it has intentions but it just feels like it wanted to go with one idea, went in another, and then seemed to go in a completely unrelated direction by the end. Firstly, I do like the idea of Rin trying to lure Nemu into seeing a horror movie with her. It's Rin so obviously she would see this as something that could be interesting...but I think the idea of Nemu thinking "I think thrills interest me thus I want to see a horror movie" just feels in a direction I'm not sure would work typically. There are all sorts of movies that are thrilling, and horror movies, especially gory ones like what Rin loves, aren't for everyone. This isn't a situation for Nemu where she was basically suppressed into not seeing something until they discover it and make it a life; in fact we don't know why she never saw a horror movie until now or if she knew about her need for thrills keeping her more lucid until the roller coaster with Rentarou last time. I mean what if Nemu got her thrill, but just got too grossed out; there are other types of thrilling movies that aren't just blood and guts, so why not just experiment with those as opposed to just jumping into "the grossest, most horrific movie ever made" that Rin wants to see?!<

>!But...if this chapter is about Rin and Nemu, why did it just become about Hakari and Karane halfway through? It feels like they didn't have much to do with the middle-schoolers, so they just decided to use a horror movie for more Hakarane bait and completely ignore the original intent...I'd say mid-way but even throughout it was more about those two getting Rin and Nemu to see the movie and they just come with. It isn't helped that we know from previous chapters that Hakari and Karane hate horror; I get using it to lure in the duo and the need for guidance...but then again, if a horror movie this gross is usually R, wouldn't that require them to have guidance too? (but then that probably would mean Hahari and we don't want her to ruin everything) Nothing wrong with Hakarane, but it felt like they sort of took all the interesting parts away when this was supposed to be Nemu's initial focus with another girl and that's resolved halfway through leading to the rest to be "dramatic tension between the two girls who hate but actually love each other". Did they just think Nemu and Rin wasn't enough to sustain a chapter on their own?!<

>!In fact the sad thing is with how Hakarane stole Nemu's first focus, it feels a reason why she gets another one so soon after two volumes later. The good news is that one with Naddy is actually fully about Nemu and her partnership with Naddy with no one else interfering (OK there is someone but that's plot related).!<

Next Time: Chiyo comes across a stray dog...? (We already had this with Rentarou and Tama; let me guess, it's a guy who gave up their life and is now thinking they're a dog...)

My Next Time:

Time for the old sitcom trope: watch Hiro barge in and something horrible happens.

Scariest/Most Nightmarish Form/Panel/Appearance - Day 12 - Hasuha

It's about time that I started another of these "best of" series with the cast of "100 Kanojo", and this one was a rather easy one to go with. With all that we've seen of the cast, there are some times and moments where the characters can get rather...disturbing. Whether it be a panel used as a joke, a truly horrifying page turn or something that may not seem scary but is truly horrifying (mostly to gather in the "meme bits" since I will permit those too), we like getting freaky and strange and scary elements within our generic harem love-comedy. Thus this time, I'm looking for the scariest and strangest and most bizarre forms and panels of all the characters and, of course, the most upvoted will be noted and...may also do the "ten scariest of all" at the end to see how this ends up.

While it's going to be a random choice (outside obviously today as a bit of a warm-up), there are several this time I'm aligning since...it's just easier to talk about some GFs on their "day of note" and we have four in this series that I think should be easy to do when it matters to them. ("the maid, the mother, the bard and the detective"...if you know what I mean)

So with that all said: What is the scariest/freakiest moment of Hasuha Hasu?

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chp. 196

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1tgjzei/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_chapter_195_zzzztoo/

This really is Nemu at her happiest, isn't it?

Chapter 196: Rentarou's Family's Sweet Dreams Party

"So due to"...wait, is she awake or asleep? Yeah, this one has a lot of sleeping issues and is tired all the time, so just be aware of that whenever interacting with her.

Wait, Nemu thinks they're all gorgeous? All of them? Um...Nemu, there are some cute ones too, just admit you're at least equal to them.

It's sad seeing Nemu look down on herself; but not every girl has to be the epitome of confidence...or Mimimi...

And...now she's asleep.

And obviously she's just sleepwalking and Rentarou has to verify it's sleepwalking.

And...wait, isn't this just the same comparison that we had during Iku's intro? No seriously, Iku compared the 8 at the time between "Beautiful Women" and "Cute Girls" and Nemu's just doing that...but to 30 girls instead of 8. (and at least it fit more with Iku since she was the first real tomboy)

And...awake at the wrong moment.

It's all just a dream to Nemu; maybe the whole manga is just her dream.

Only real complaint is Saki thinking she needs to be "beautiful" over "pretty" but...eh, she's weird like that. (seriously, this is why it only really worked with Iku)

And...WAIT A MINUTE, HOLD ON THERE!?

Yeah...aside time...: >!For starters, I do need to state that "everyone having a sleepover in one place" isn't really that problematic when it comes to "Nemu's intro activity"; she wants to sleep, let's all sleep, that's fine. My issue...is Hahari and Kusuri, especially Hahari: we're in the middle of school, we don't even know what day it is (it could be Saturday where they do usually have a half-day so they can just go home afterwards), and now because Nemu wants to do a sleep activity, they all just get right on up and leave the school, go to Hanazono Mansion for a nap and...expect to be back in school in time for the afternoon classes!? Why not just do a nap on the roof...or better yet, an actual sleepover like the hot pot/sumo arc? You don't have to do the activity in the middle of school (I mean the eating contest for Kurumi proved that long ago), so why does everyone have to just all go together to the mansion for this when...how far away is the mansion to even get there and back in time to do the afternoon classes? (not made better in that whenever Hahari goes to school, most of the time Mei drives her; and I doubt 32 people are all just going to be stuffed into one limo and back within an hour or so; or they're going to walk to the mansion, have a nap, then walk back to school in a timely manner!? Did anyone think this over about the idea that it takes time to set up a nap to begin with, especially the type of nap they all end up doing in the end? Again, wouldn't it be better to have a big after-school sleepover if you're going to be spending time sleeping? And...well that's not getting into the other problem in what Kusuri pulls...but you can probably guess and that is the rest of the chapter to gripe about. But the idea that all intro activities for new GFs must take place during school in one period either after school or during lunch really, really feels limiting now compared to the early days of the manga and another thing to worry about.!<

OK, new question: did they even have time to get pajamas; I mean we know about Hahari's closet but that's more...eclectic.

And...er...yeah, Kusuri you screwed up yet again!

And I guess Nemu is caught in the nightmare as well; congrats, Kusuri, she's never coming back after this stunt. (oh who am I kidding?)

And Nemu's up...and she looks pissed.

Wait, why is Ahko claiming Rentarou's dead?

The problem with Ahko's depression is her eternal smile doesn't make it easy to read.

And I guess sleepwalking Nemu has to be the hero...some hero, if shaking does nothing.

Yeesh, Matsuri and Eira are in denial.

Can someone please tell Rin this is what all violence leads to in the end?

Nemu really is the only one left, isn't she?

Is anyone even accepting of this; or is this just the most depressing chapter ever?

Oh yeah, Hahari and Yaku...they have experiences with losing loved ones already...I really, really wish they'd explain this a bit better considering the mess of "zings" to begin with.

So what's Nemu's next plan?

I think you just made Saki more disturbing than usual.

Well that didn't work.

OH COME ON, SHIZUKA'S SLEEP-TEXTING!? And...well, yeah expected that of Karane.

Kiki's right: Rentarou just keeps reviving regardless so this really is nothing. And Kusuri...still blame you; and if you kill him, then it's your fault and bringing him back as a zombie probably is going to make things worse.

Meru's accepted it well; Suu...is she in denial?

They really, really like having Suu focused and Nemu...shaking her...

YOU DON'T NEED SENSE SLAPPED INTO YOU!? SUU, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST OPEN YOUR EYES!?

Um...Ahko's more depressed than you are, Suu, so don't even try.

More depression from Kurumi and Momiji.

Mai...Mai...why are you even...>!though it does lead to one of the funniest moments in the post-chapter!<

Yamame's at least accepting...in a "Lion King" sort of way.

Momoha wants booze, so what is Nemu going to...

So if Momoha drowns here, is that Nemu's fault or Kusuri's?

No wait, Momoha's still drinking while asleep; how clean does Hahari keep her floors?

Bone dry Hakari...maybe killing Rentarou is the only way to control her. And Tama's just a pill bug.

I don't even want to know what Mei and Meme are dreaming about.

Kishika's basically just a toddler and Iku...er...

Guess Nemu's next plan and guess who gets to take it?

Is this a good or bad reaction...I mean this is Iku we're talking about.

She liked it. OK, we're good.

I guess Rentarou's dreaming about the bad end. I mean remember: if they don't find love, they die...so I guess with all of them brainwashed to think Rentarou is their love and losing him...or is Rentarou's dream something else?

Look, things end, even manga. Seriously, if the manga was cancelled long ago, you wouldn't be so angry at this point.

I guess Nemu has a real plan...which is dragging all the girls...around...

Are any of them feeling this; won't they have rug burns when they wake up?

I think using Rentarou like that without his permission while unconscious is illegal in most jurisdictions.

And...

Wait...THAT'S ALL IT TOOK TO MAKE THEM HAPPY!?

I mean they're sleeping soundly...but it does further the idea this is a cult.

Even Rentarou's satisfied.

And with that...mission accomplished!

(And with that...mission accomplished!)

Guys...let's never have dreams like that again...or at least no more Kusuri incense.

Review ("newtimer version"): So let's have an intro activity where everyone has nightmares of Rentarou dying (or Rentarou thinking the girls died) and Nemu resolves it. I mean I get the need for a plot but isn't that a bit much...again, I still blame Kusuri for this.

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts):  >!While I did gripe a lot earlier about the whole nonsense of how this "Intro Activity" was set up, this chapter does bring up an interesting thought that I don't think it's gone into before or after that sort of shows how disturbing it's all become: the factor of death with the family. We know on Rentarou's side, he's trying to prevent death: the whole reason the harem is as big as it is is due to the Love God's whole set-up: if any of the GFs don't fall in love with him, they will die. It was bad enough when it was Hakari and Karane, so obviously with all of the girls he has now and the many more to come, he's stuck in this situation and thus is trying his hardest even if it goes a bit (way too) far in how much he is willing to do in order to guarantee their happiness and their survival. Him threatening everyone...it's annoying but in character, though again if the manga flopped, it wouldn't really need to go that far and it probably would have ended happily...but way shorter...years ago.!<

>!On the other hand...there are the girls and their ideas of losing Rentarou. It just feels sad that their entire be-all and end-all of existence now is Rentarou and that every last one of them falls apart essentially without him around. Sure there are some that seem more "accepting" of losing him (Yamame and her "circle of life" bit, Meru accepting the despair of the world), but everyone else just feels like they just would completely fall apart without him. It probably was a simulation based on another stupid Kusuri drug, but it does make me wonder: is there really literally absolutely nothing else in any of the girls' lives to let them live longer and happier if Rentarou wasn't around? I mean...ANYTHING!? And it's worse with Hahari and Yaku in that they both already experienced loss and should be more accepting of losing a loved one...yet they're as depressed and brainwashed as the others! (all while furthering making one wonder about what the whole point of Soulmates are; are Papari and the man who gave Yaku Yomogi (Kusuri's mom) really never were the soulmates and they were all just waiting for Rentarou too!? Isn't that just pathetic!?!?) The whole chapter just furthers the sad fate of the manga that they're all a cult and that there litrerally is nothing else to any of these girls but Rentarou, regardless of the many different curtains and exteriors they have to show who they are! It goes along the same mentality of 144-146 and 173-174 of just "we're all nothing, Rentarou is our everything, he defines our existence, all hail Rentarou and screw everything else in our existence" and I really just hate that. What makes the characters in this manga is the variety of those that Rentarou brings in due to this, many that probably have issues with the world and thus wouldn't be dateable or find love if he wasn't around; but then there are those who absolutely would...and it's all thrown away the moment they made eye contact with Rentarou. !<

>!I get it with how the manga is structured, but it's one of the weakest thing about the manga in general and it weakens this chapter in that Kusuri's drug basically revealed that not a single GF of the lot (except Nemu but even then she has sleepwalking powers to counter it) would have any use to existence if Rentarou were to die someday. Obviously with the manga being what it is and...Rentarou...it's never going to happen; but it feels unhealthy if you just remove one guy and the whole structure of everything, not just the harem but the girls themselves, all falls apart with him gone. It ruins what should be a cute chapter, in the end.!<

Next Time: We'll be on break so everyone can get back to sleep. Look for us the next week after! (A good night's sleep is a good thing; not...whatever this chapter was.)

My Next Time:

I guess Mimimi's also against the whole \"watch movies on a cell for a date\" thing; especially if boring.

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chapter 195 (Zzzz...too sleepy for a tag...zzzz....)

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1tds9hc/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_volume_22_extras/

This panel alone proves there's even less in Kusuri's head (ignoring drugs) than in Saki's (ignoring senpai issues)

Chapter 195: The Sleepy Girl

And...once again they're all busy. 30 GFs...30...and they're all busy at the same exact time at the moment it's time to do another of these chapters. Shouldn't Rentarou be meta enough to realize "yeah, I'm about to meet a new girlfriend" by this point...or does he just play along with it? >!(the only good news is this is the most recent GF where this has happened.)!<

And there's someone just...staggering around...towards a construction site. I mean I know Rentarou's going to stop it but come on, wouldn't it be more fun to let them wander in and see what happens?

Couldn't she at least be so tired that her eyes remain closed when she's nearly killed!?...31...

Eh, it's just a dream, kid, go back into nearly getting yourself killed. You'll be fine.

And now the bigger issue is the senility of the construction staff more than the random girl who nearly killed herself due to her issues of being too tired to function.

Nemu Nemui...her name is literally just "to sleep" twice. It's obvious what her gimmick is...but who knows, maybe she's some big science genius and the "sleep" name is just coincidental due to Rentarou meeting her in this state.

See, Rentarou, she's just always sleepy. Just ignore her.

And she's sleepy because...she makes shoes? Er...isn't that more a daytime thing? Or is she just a part of a child labor scheme? (Rentarou breaking of child slavery would be a funny thing I admit)

Oh...her family makes shoes...but who's to say it's really family; it could still be child slavery.

Maybe if Nemu's family took in some outsiders or had other members of the family around aside their granddaughter...

OK, so if you work at night, don't hire a girl who likes to sleep...or just let her sleep and hire someone else.

And yet Nemu sleeps...and they keep making shoes because...elves...just...elves...

And for those who don't get it, here's Meru to explain. THANKS MERU!

So this is a family issue. The Nemui's at least have the means to keep making shoes but it's hard to just say "the elves are doing it" and explain that to customers.

And she's just too tired to function.

Just ignore her, Rentarou; if she wants to sleep on the pavement, let her.

Rentarou, again: she's fine. Ignore her.

At least on a bench probably is more sanitary than "random girl sleeps on the ground."

And....

Yep, she's out.

OK, Rentarou, just let Nemu sleep and figure out what else to do today; there's bound to be something non-GF related you can...

Er...

Why is Nemu up...yet acting like she's asleep?

Yeah Rentarou, it's obvious she's standing...but she's still asleep.

Did we really need that reference? It only really worked with Nano preparing to kill Mimimi.

Oh...so she's sleepwalking...

And now she's just...dragging Rentarou away...

Even Rentarou thinks "wait, what is even going on already!?"

And Nemu is just making him do it and "sleep talking".

Why does even the sleeper have a weird gimmick like this?

So then...they just go on a date...

Ignore the smile, Rentarou's even more confused than ever.

But eh, she at least is harmless.

So later at the park.

So Nemu's awake...ish...

So she thinks she dreamed...what she just...er....how do we even tell her?

So Nemu admits to the sleepwalking. Yet no one tells her how it is her reality.

This is just a bizarre gimmick. How in the world do you explain something like this to someone who just is oblivious to it all?

So...back to talking about shoes...

Oh and the bread they left for the elves is just eaten by Nemu herself. Yeah, I think we all saw that coming.

So you have this big family secret, and yet you continue to believe "elves do it"...are you sure it isn't something deeper? I mean this manga has gods and ghosts and whatnot, so elves could exist...yet at the same time it really isn't elves because...it's actually them...this is just so convoluted.

"Sorry for whatever I did, even if I don't know if I actually did it."

Seriously, Rentarou can be dragged through a pit of scorpions and rusty nails and thrown into space without the ability to breathe and say "he had fun" if a GF is involved...so it really means nothing when he says it.

(sighs)...come on, we know all GFs feel this way...which is why it feels bizarre none of them show up whenever these zings happen.

Though at least it's nice to have self-doubt for once.

So she'll convince Rentarou via...shoes...I mean it is a unique method of confession.

Er...you do realize you go to the same school...sort of...why there?

So that night, she gets to work on the shoes...

And...eh, just go to bed, Nemu, it's not worth the effort.

It's really a tough job.

"Make the shoes yourself and not with the elves"...maybe just, I dunno, put up security cameras to convince yourself that you're all you need?

At least she kept at it...

I suppose that's all that's needed to make shoes, isn't it?

So then they both return to the park and...

Nemu really needs more confidence.

This really is the hardest thing she's ever done.

And...she fails. Dang. For once, someone actually fails to reach Rentarou. Sort of hope she has her things in order considering the meta-plot but...

Poor Nemu really needs to calm down.

Or...fall asleep...that works too.

At least that side is able to give Rentarou the shoes.

And again, Rentarou can be given a pile of trash from a GF and he'd still love it.

And sudden sneak attack kiss!

Yeah, this Nemu feels different from the real Nemu.

And make-out session.

No wait, Rentarou woke her up.

And she thinks she's dreaming again.

And she's surprised that somehow Rentarou got the shoes after all. So I guess she did make them herself.

Feelings are hard to get across; shoes are way easier.

Just let her have her simple happiness, Rentarou.

Nemu...you're you. Don't look down on yourself.

Even if your "dream self" isn't that way, you're still cute regardless of your form.

I guess to Rentarou, it really is "well it was you that made the shoes and not your dream self"...but the dream self is better at parties.

And of course here we go with that...

I think this is the natural response for someone like Nemu.

Yeah...it's just a dream...I may as well go out with Rentarou.

I guess she's just resigned to the fact she's stuck with this. (and Rentarou shouldn't try to stop her; Nemu's mind is just different in that way.

Review ("newtimer version"): I do admit that ignoring the Rentarou stuff, Nemu is at least different enough that she's a nice GF concept. Sure she has her issues too, but it's something different and I do like the try here.

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts): >!It's apparant at this point in the manga that if we're going to have a cast of 100 girlfriends for Rentarou to be with, we need to cover all the various tropes and concepts one can think of when devising girlfriends. So obviously, one of those girlfriends was going to eventually be "the sleepy one" and...yeah, that's Nemu alright. We wanted a sleepy girlfriend, we get a sleepy girlfriend, and all the tropes of being a sleepy girlfriend. Regarding the "sleepwalking power" side, it's just a means to probably make her more active than anything so we don't just have a lump laying about sleeping as the other characters are doing things, so I think it's a necessity in order to make her work in a manga like this. However what I think is the most interesting element to Nemu isn't the "sleepwalking" side but her actual personality when she's in the waking world: whether it's a factor of constantly being tired or just who she is, I like that she is more of a downer; she has no confidence and doesn't feel the best regarding the others and doesn't make much of herself. She tries to do what's best but can't bring herself to do it, and the fact that things go so well when she's asleep just makes it harder for her awake side to gain in confidence to boost herself because of how good her sleeping side is at these things (even with the whole "Elves and the Shoemaker" bit that is explained here; it's a nice way for Meru to cameo at least) The whole plot of her wanting to make shoes for Rentarou, and struggling to go through with it almost to give up when she has the shoes in hand staring at Rentarou is an interesting one and sort of further emphasizes Nemu's issues of cofidence and probably how this is something she and the others have to work with for her; she has something easily outlined and it just adds more color. Nemu's actually a girlfriend that is easy to like from the start, which considering many of the problematic GFs we've had post-100, is something that at least lets her stand out compared to many others.!<

Next Time: Everybody zzz! (the good news about Nemu is it's way easier to decide what to do for a chapter focus with her around...and I don't mean "shoes".)

My Next Time:

Yeah this is Nemu's thing: it's impossible for her to know what she does awake and what she does asleep.

Scariest/Most Nightmarish Form/Panel/Appearance - Day 09 - Yamame

So with that all said: What is the scariest/freakiest moment of Yamame Yasashiki?

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Volume 22 Extras

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1tcvrj2/strange_100_kanojo_reread_chapter_194/

The sad thing: if everyone meets an alien, then you do, then you're not abnormal...\"normalcy\" keeps hitting Kiki, doesn't it?

Volume 22 Extras

Cover: So...summer has finally come to...wait, it's still not summer in the manga. It's still spring. The spring of Rentarou's first year of high school. Well...who cares: let's make it summer regardless! I do like this and how it feels like this and the next two covers connect together. My only complaint: why is Rentarou in all three? I mean if it was "one continuous scene and all of the girls + Rentarou in one moment in time", I'd find it all cool...except Rentarou's in this pic...and the next one...and the third one...you do realize this is the sort of thing that makes me like him less and less, right?

186: Eh, every GF comes up with their own reason as to why Rentarou is there for them other than the obvious "brainwashed by magic eyeballs" aspect; this is just Saki's excuse.

187: I really like Meru as the cynical one; my only problem is...if the other girls didn't want to say "senpai", just let them not say "senpai". Rentarou, just let the girls be who they are.

188: Rentarou just turned into Cyclops and Rin wants him to be Deadpool. But then which Deadpool: the early Liefeldian version, the more comedic one...or is she just a Ryan Reynolds fan?

189: I guess they need a soak after all that...but three loli/loli-esque girls doesn't do it for me.

190: Yeah...feeling up Rentarou's lips is fine, but when in Rome...er, Hanazono Mansion...I wonder how long they're going to let Momiji feel her up?

191: So they took a bath...then did the soumen thing...then took another bath. Sure no one has turned into a prune after all this?

192: Time to play with Meme's sexuality again at the cost of Mimimi's pride! She really needs a more weighted skirt.

193: So they want to explain Kurumi's feeling towards breasts. But then...considering she isn't Rentarou...or a Hanazono...maybe it would have been easier if she did it another way? I mean what about the bread chapter; considering what was revealed there and how the girls supposedly shared themselves afterwards (or at least I hope they did and it wasn't just Rentarou), wouldn't Kurumi just use that as a guide to tell whose breasts are who? (yeah Tama was around then but it's still an option for a more G rated version.)

194: So kissy-wissy: success. Butt paddling...sorry Iku, not everyone is going to like your ideas.

Chapter 194.5: My First "Senpai"

"Dumb Kids Kindergarten?" That's...probably something that one can talk about with the current state of education in some countries.

And guess which dumb kid goes to this kindergarten?

Um...Saki...you're all small...you're preschoolers, being small is just where you're stuck at for the moment.

Why do I imagine this being a "no" and "no" on all accounts?

Time for the younger classmates!

And Saki is here for...

I guess she was just a small 4-year old.

And she's on the verge of tears...something older Saki would condemn.

But hey, there's a shrimp over there, wonder who that could be!?

WHO LET THE DRUG GREMLIN OUT INTO THE WORLD TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE AT THAT AGE!?!?

"I'm Kusuri, we're going to play drugs...store, just drug store, not actual drugs." (need I remind you that according to her parents, she developed her first drug at 8 months!)

Saki has no idea what it is but she's just happy to have a little sister. (she should be afraid, it's Kusuri we're dealing with)

So they play...

And they're all happy and such...

And...well...it's obvious what Saki wants.

And...where did Kusuri learn that term?

Oh great...it's terminal.

At least it made her more enthusiastic...

And also clumsy.

Personally I think she needs a nurse to look after her. >!I just hope she doesn't get into Ohana and have to deal with that constantly absent monster.!<

And in present times...

Thank goodness she doesn't remember, or else she'd have trauma....or remember if drugs were involved.

A bit on Kusuri here I need to get into but will save it for a moment.

She's just happy she was a senpai...and Matsuri and Nano really don't understand any of this.

And Kusuri...eh, maybe let's not tell her.

Review ("newtimer version"): So the first one to ever call Saki "senpai" was...Kusuri. Where did Kusuri learn it considering how she seemed sheltered outside spending all her time with granny and drugs? In fact why did Kusuri even need a preschool anyway...eh, probably Yaku hadn't moved in at the time, but it is an interesting reveal.

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts): >!It's interesting when characters we know end up having connections we don't really realize with one another before the obvious in universe. It really shouldn't be every character in this manga, but it is interesting when it comes up. Thus with this, I don't mind Saki and Kusuri's early connection with one another, though I'm more intrigued by something that I realized due to this chapter: it didn't seem evident until now, but Kusuri really does feel like someone who may be a genius with drugs, but is just mentally and socially immature; and this is even before present day! Sure here it feels obvious with how she reacts alongside Saki (who tries to act like a "big kid" despite her small stature), but this combined with many of her focal chapters and moments tend to show that she just never grew up mentally despite her genius in making drugs. If she did go to a day care, she probably wasn't sheltered and shielded from the world, but it seems to be obvious: she has this Mozart-like element where she's a genius at what matters to her (drugs), but everything else screws her up: she's immature, she probably makes bigger issues with others than she resolves (thus why the rest of the chemistry club quit) and the mere fact she rather be an 8 year old instead of an 18 year old makes it like this is where she thinks she should be mentally forever and even wants to trap others in that same state considering Yaku and her parents. And while we have seen that her actual older self does act different and mature as if contrary to who we see Kusuri as all the time, the mere fact that her 8 year old self remains dominant just feels like either she's ashamed that she did "grow up" or she just doesn't like this side to herself and because her more immature side ends up overruling her mature side, that's why we're stuck with her as the "drug gremlin".!<

>!Yeah, I know I'm making this more about Kusuri than Saki and this is Saki's backstory, but Saki's story really doesn't have much to it: we find out Kusuri was her first Kouhai but the two forgot that and that's it. I just find Kusuri's portrayal at 3 more interesting than the Saki reveal.!<

Next Time: That sleepy-looking girl...? (beginning of the volume, doesn't mean it's a new girlfriend...eh, who would need more sleep about now...I mean there was Shizuka's all-nighter...and Kusuri probably too obsessed with drugs to sleep...)

My Next Time:

This reminds me: we need Mei as a Saint Bernard again; that was adorable.

Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chapter 194

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1tbwfij/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_chp_193/

She did try...but it's boring if every girl was good at everything...or were Rentarou...

Chapter 194: Yamame-chan's Outer Wildlife Preservation Diaries

So Yamame just went up to the mountains behind everyone's back...er, does she go there that often? How close are the mountains to Sukisugi? Couldn't they have made another date out of it; probably if Rentarou knew, you know him.

She just cares for animals; Yamame's just nice.

But this creature...needs constant care and...needs to come to school with her? I'd ask about Hahari's permission but it's Hahari; my worry is "do you really want an animal to run around in school all day with the constant care it probably requires?"

Time to see what Yamame's brought for show-and-tell toda...

I...have...so many questions about now...

So that's an alien. Yet Yamame thinks "it's in the mountains and wasn't in a spaceship, so therefore it's a lifeform of Earth"...Yamame, just because there's no spaceship doesn't mean that it still isn't just...not native.

SO SHE DID SEE IT'S SPACESHIP!? SO WHY DID SHE STILL THINK "OH, IT'S FROM EARTH" WHEN THERE'S A BIZARRE CREATURE LAYING THERE NEAR AN UNKNOWN PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT!?

It is scared so at least it doesn't seem too bad.

So let's turn it in to the government...yeah, I've seen way too many movies where aliens are "taken in by a local government" and it never ends well.

And Momoha just wants to get rich off it.

She does know how to stop the conversation, aye!

I'd be terrified too: you have a mob of 31 people on the roof and it's just this small creature, why wouldn't you hide for cover?

I guess if Yamame believes in that thing, so does Rentarou.

Guess it doesn't know human customes for contact...I'd say "try the white flag" but I've seen Ideon.

Not surprised by this; but then didn't Tama do just this with Eira some time back?

Kiki's just dreaming about how encountering an alien is going to make her more famous...don't steal Yamame's headlines, idiot.

I like Kurumi's line: you meet an alien, they'll interview you in some black-ops room, maybe use a MiB memory wipe; you know the deal.

Are sci-fi and fantasy that close? I mean there are those who think the tale of Kaguya-hime (the bamboo cutter's tale) is about aliens since she returns to the moon so...

And Eira wants to kill it with a physical attack. All while Momiji's just embracing the whole "touch" thing.

DO YOU HAVE TO BRING UP THE AGE THING, SAKI!? WE DON'T KNOW IT'S BIOLOGY AND HOW AGE AND TIME AND SUCH WORK FOR A SPECIES LIKE THAT!?

Now for Kusuri.

And now for why showing Kusuri an alien is the worst idea imaginable.

Yeah, Kusuri wasn't joking. Yamame just saved Earth from unknown pathogens the drug gremlin could have unleashed!

Er...yakisoba? Are you sure aliens even eat the same food as us; even Yamame thinks it isn't eating anything that she provided.

So...OK, it's intrigued by the sauce.

At least Matsuri found a way of contact that isn't just finger poking or...needle poking if Kusuri had her way.

At least they finally got through to the creature; but what did that take?

So they all ate yakisoba...

I would imagine that Momoha's booze would not work the same way for a creature like that.

Hahari, just let him eat.

Yeesh, she would.

Yeah, Hahari was trying to eat Rentarou; I would be horrified too.

Nano's line is apt: how many braincells have been lost by Hahari over the series?

And now it knows stupid slang; that's going to help things.

Now to teach it things Iku wants it to...please, don't make them do that.

So they played and Yaku kept treating it's wounds...

And Iku had it hit her butt.

So eventually Yamame finally did heal the alien.

Time to go home, I suppose.

Oh great, it's talking...and it's picked up all their vocal quirks.

SO IT WAS GOING TO KILL HER!?!?!?

I guess it being hurt prevented it from accomplishing that mission.

And Yamame...just...knew...um...what?

So somehow she has some sort of natural instinct; so then if it's an instinct why did it make her think this was some Earth creature and not...you know...an alien?

So she knew...yet she still helped.

I guess Yamame has a code to live by.

That is one of the truest things anyone could say, especially Yamame.

So she didn't have the alien meet the others until it was way less hostile. But I mean, it could have still eaten them...I mean if it ate Chiyo or Saki, no loss!

Appreciate is fine, but there are those people who appreciate someone and still go to war or kill them, sadly.

Yamame's too loving for this world.

So then they return to the mountain and...the alien keeps talking like them...>!happy it's leaving before it adds in "zzzz" or "you mustn't!" or "yes, I see (ba-crk)" to it's vocabulary.!<

At least she's leaving it be.

And it had to be Karane...just cause this manga is stupid.

And...into the spaceship...wait how did they fix the spaceship; was it broken or just landed?

One wonders where or how far that space station is from Earth.

So the alien's real name is "Agent 100-KN"; not sure how pronounceable that is.

Oh and we're about to be invaded. Nice going, Yamame, we're all doomed because of you.

Sure you can say that about Yamame...but what about the billions of others, many of whom wouldn't have had the same exposure or experience?

Yeah it's the classic bit: one alien appreciates Earth, others are like "NO, THEY MUST BE ELIMINATED!", you know how this goes.

I doubt it cares about anyone other than Yamame; it never once spent time with Mei or Ahko, trust me on that.

Time for the Hail Mary...

Er...I have a lot of questions on if or how that sort of thing works.

I guess that's culture shock for you.

Seriously, do we know anything else about these aliens; do they have gender or any relationship? What if they are all the same gender; what if they find it as disturbing and another means to destroy Earth? PLEASE DON'T TELL ME HAHARI JUST SAVED THE PLANET!?!?!?

I...have no idea how that worked but...yay, Earth is saved!

So then Yamame went back to the mountains and another device.

And...it's the alien again.

It's talking like Tama...and Hahari...this alien is just corrupted.

I still don't get any of this.

Hahari basically saved Earth and the aliens probably still have zero context behind any of this. (seriously, why her!? Yamame did all the work and they use Hahari's idea!?)

And...make-out session.

I mean Yamame's happy...but sadly when you're in a cult...

Review ("newtimer version"): So...aliens. Yamame helps the family meet aliens. And Hahari saved the universe...OK, Yamame did too but...

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts):  >!There's a fine line in this manga in accepting things; mostly those that are beyond the typical structure of the manga. And that's the funny thing: I'm cool with the supernatural because the whole manga starts with a mess-up by a literal Love God so other Gods and strange supernatural aspects like ghosts and whatnot should be fine. But science-fiction and aliens...that's something else. I know, we have Kusuri, but her drugs have been way more "fantasy" than "science-fiction" with how instantaneous they are and how they just interact with people and it isn't the typical sort of sci-fi as you'd expect. And there was the whole element of "Rentarou, Hakari and Karane summoned an alien with their kiss attempt in chapter 2", but that was an end of chapter gag and you'd think the post-volume gag would make it like it was just something goofy to throw in and not solidify "yeah, aliens exist in this universe".!<

>!So this chapter with Yamame literally meeting an alien...it's a tough one. It works, mostly due to Yamame and the creature's interactions, and I like the idea of "it was here to invade and even maybe eat Yamame but her kindness spared the planet...but who is to say that this wouldn't have been the same situation if it wasn't her? One wrong person meets this alien, and the planet is doomed. I mean even in the Family, you have Kusuri wanting to draw out it's blood and those who wanted to inform the authorities; and if that happened, then that would have doomed us as well. It basically had to be Yamame and she did a good job with that. I do sort of wonder about the rest, though, since it sort of goes in weird directions with the others; especially how it picks up all their speech quirks, and...the kissy-wissy nonsense since we have no idea how this species of alien are biologically and if/whether kissing even matters to any of them or what it would mean; for all we know, if it didn't end the way it did, it could have turned them to cannibals or activated something horrid they didn't need. It was pure luck that they got out alright...and it just feels shameful that Hahari is more saving Earth than Yamame and Yamame met the alien and saved us from one to begin with! It's just...all weird, I suppose.!<

Next Time: Volume 22 done; time for the Extras!

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chp. 193

Last time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1taxmeo/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_chapter_192/

One of these days, the abuse of Uncle Hiro by the rest of the cast will finally end.

Chapter 193: Meme Knitting and Tama the Kitty / Meme and Kurumi's Back-Alley Expedition

This...is a strange chapter; it's essentially two shorts in one and they both happen to be about Meme. I don't get why they did it this way, especially considering it feels like the format of the DL/DL with GF chapters in two shorter chapters; further, they're both about Meme and while it could be nice to have Meme focus after nothing in the last DL chapter...we just had her and Mimimi last time, so why did they thing we need still more Meme here, let alone two Meme shorts? But I suppose they just had ideas and they weren't full chapter length so...

I guess while we're at it, just one brief thing before we start:

"BUT YOUR BANGS!!!!!" (wanted to get it out of me.)

Meme Knitting and Tama the Kitty

So Meme is knitting one day...

And Tama is batting the yarn.

How does that tail even work?

Should have seen that coming.

Impulses and cats are just a thing.

Meme's OK with it...

There, it's playable.

So Tama bats and...

Wait, Meme's more interesting, why?

It's round, it's moving.

And there...something else...round...and moving...

She really needs to invest in a tighter/bigger minimizing bra.

Um...Tama...

And...there goes Meme.

Look Tama, not all of us can be Momiji.

Oh great, she's in depression mode again.

The things one needs to do to snap Tama out of that mode.

Now the yarn is back with Meme and Tama's stuck.

And Tama looks like one of those \"cat\" memes at this point.

She follows what moves because...cat instincts?

So here's a mouse, and it will move as I keep knitting.

It's hard to say how stupid of a cat she is considering the whole human thing.

And the whole "I like spending time with people." bit.

I mean it's a well knit mouse.

And we're smelling things again; this manga and it's smells.

And Tama is...

What even does Meme smell like; I mean I don't want \"odor-rama\" but seriously...

Meme and Kurumi's Back-Alley Expedition

Meanwhile, Kurumi is confusing Karane and Saki with stories of a vending machine.

And because of the title...yeah, Meme knows where it is.

With the positioning of the headboard's heart over her head, I wonder if that's more about Meme's feelings than anything.

So they finally meet up and...wait an umbrella?

I guess it was raining...somehow...is this going to be a plot point?

Meme is such a worrywart; but then again Kurumi's only here for the food.

Time to get this over with, I suppose.

Why is she in such a hurry?

Maybe Meme needs to listen to Kurumi and calm down before she gets hurt.

Well now they should...oh, they made it to the vending machine.

Rice Dream? Is this going to be one of those types of chapters?

So then...

Yeah...it is...seriously, I get Japan has a vending machine obsession but this is sort of ridiculous.

And now Meme's really panicking.

Kurumi, you need to stop her before...

This tends to be a thing with Meme in particular.

And misdirect to...the ground. This really is an off day for her.

Oh great, she's going to be as depressed as Meru soon.

Kurumi at least realizes that Meme really hasn't been herself. (but what is "herself" when it comes to Meme?)

I get trying to do your best but in this case, maybe you should have...I dunno...written directions or made sure of it first before rushing out with Kurumi?

And of course we have to be reminded of all she does and how everyone appreciates her...it's the typical "don't change who you are" thing we've seen so many times by now in this manga alone.

At least Kurumi realizes this is sort of her fault.

I mean she knew where it was so really it was more about getting organization more than anything.

So then she finally thinks things through and then...

Seriously, how could Meme confuse this with some other vending machine?

So they get their ice cream and...

They eat it, they're happy, they care about each other, yep.

I'd say this is good but this is Meme we're talking about.

Oh great, she's having those feelings again...

At least she's too interested in eating to ignore Meme vanishing.

Review ("newtimer version"): This was a strange way to do a chapter; I mean it's interesting but did we really need "two short Meme stories" instead of one bigger one? Are her interactions with Tama or Kurumi just not that important?

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts): >!I do wonder if this was a bit of an experiment considering things or "they had ideas but they didn't really want to do much with them so we got a short chapter with two stories" instead of one typical long one. The funny thing is the first one with Tama does feel like it could have worked as a full chapter; a mostly silent chapter of Tama interacting with Meme as she knits would have been adorable and I do think there was more potential there than what we ended up getting in the chapter proper. By comparison, not as happy with the Kurumi one; it's just "Meme tries to act like a senpai, nearly fails, then remembers what she needs to do...and Kurumi eats something."; it's cute but I really just wish it was all just the Meme/Tama chapter without the Kurumi part; I still think Meme and Tama could have filled up 20 pages easily.!<

Next Time: Yamame has a chance encounter in the mountains...? (huh, haven't seen her get a chapter in a while; wonder what sort of animal she's found this time...or person, I mean she does go to the mountains a lot; it's in her name.)

My Next Time:

As a reminder: the scientists in \"E.T.\" were evil...wait why am I talking about \"E.T.\"?

Scariest/Most Nightmarish Form/Panel/Appearance - Day 04 - Kishika

So with that all said: What is the scariest/freakiest moment of Kishika Torotoro?

A Strange "100 Kanojo" Reread - Chapter 192

Last Time on the reread: https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1t9zz20/a_strange_100_kanojo_reread_chp_191/

I know there are those that see Mimimi as a goddess but I never thought it would be this literal.

Chapter 192: Rentarou's Family's Daily Life (Part Six)

Matching Gals

Karane: Seriously, this is not for me; Ahko sure but I'm just too awesome for this.

And Ahko just goes ahead and buys it anyway.

Seriously, did you see yourself in the earlier panel?

So if she isn't a tsundere, what is Karane, a gyaru?

Even despondency just leads to an Ahko smile.

There, they're wearing the headbands.

Ahko does it again to her.

So Is It Based on... How Dumb They Are? (Or Just Vibes?)

Don't be polite, Kurumi, just eat everything and claim it was your stomach.

And one for Saki...

Someone's upset about the honorific being ignored.

So if Kusuri's a drug gremlin, Saki's just...a gremlin...

Hey Kusuri, we know you have another form, you just like screwing with everyone!

Maybe it is about being older.

Teachers Fresh Off Work

Considering the old "older characters eating at an oden bar" bit that is in all Japanese media, I'm surprised it took this long for the manga to do it with Naddy and Momoha.

And then there's booze and...

There's a difference between food quality and person quality, you know.

Progress in English, Naddy? Are you sure?

I mean she says the "ggu" instead of just "egg", so it is...close...

So then...

Wait, Daikon Radish is a specific radish, the English word for daikon is daikon.

Naddy's just stumped.

"Vegetable"...er...um...do you realize how broad that is?

My Dear Sister Has Been Assigned to Another Job So I Have Take Her Place Serving Hahari-sama Today; I Had Better Steel Myself and Perform to My Utmost to Live Up to My Position as My Dear Sister's Little Sister

Super long caption so...yep, there's Mai.

How many times has Hahari been splashed? I mean she probably has a thing for wet nightgowns.

I do wonder what even Mei's job is for today if Mai is stuck on Hahari duty?

Maybe Hahari should have told Mai this before she took the job.

This has just been a bad, bad day for Mai.

Oh...it's Hahari-isms motivating her...can Mai just quit and find someone else who needs a maid already?

The Pair Caught in a Landslide on a Family Hiking Trip

Landslide, what landslide; Usa-chan and Meru just are at the bottom of a cliff.

And now Usa-chan's lonliness is...wait she's with Meru, how is being with someone lonely?

Eh, fairy tales are a calming mechanism.

Well she's happy at least.

COME ON RENTAROU, THERE PROBABLY WAS A SLOPE TO GO DOWN WITHOUT NEEDING ALL THAT!

And they both are appreciative of one another.

Pure of heart...no, it's just because Usa-chan was lonely and bored.

So is she a calming mechanism...or just a means for a cover interaction that wouldn't occur otherwise?

I swear Uto was in the first panel of this, what happened to her?

Creeps Can Be Taken Out With a Kick

So Chiyo and Eira are walking and...

WATCH OUT, IT'S UNCLE HIRO!!!

Well...he's probably dead...

And right to Chiyo; without knowing.

And now Eira's probably worried about the pending lawsuit by Uncle Hiro.

He just has the worst luck; but at least he has the same genetics as Rentarou so he'll walk it off.

And Hiro's the only one getting punished...yeah that seems right.

So This is a "Holy Scripture"

Shizuka, I think you should keep your writing attempts to yourself and maybe Meru.

I wouldn't trust her with that book.

Oh...it's to get it over with. Yeah at least she can say it's horrid sooner than others would.

What, did Nano spy on her the entire time she was writing this?

Oh great, she's lost.

And so Nano never read anything of Shizuka's ever again. The end.

The Shadow and the Shadowed

Is this what Mei was doing during Mai's entry: playing numbers for Suu?

How many numbers is Suu going to...and how much did she pay Hahari for her use?

Shadowy, like a ninja...I mean she is the closest we have to one in this manga.

Now they're just...talking about bathroom numbers...what is with this manga and bathrooms lately?

She's literally a loyal dog waiting for her master.

And Hahari's just...there...I guess it wasn't simultaneous to Mai's entry.

Orders, numbers...same thing. (and more Dog Mei please!)

A Gaze of Longing

Will we ever see more of the Utsukushisugi household outside Mimimi's bedroom?

Oh...Meme's eyes...that was just perfect happenstance...by the way, where is that photographer/newspaper girl again?

And Meme's hormones are in an uproar again.

Be smug, just be smug.

I think Meme's doomed if Mimimi's staring at her like this.

Are you sure you're straight, Meme?

The Pair Caught in a Landslide on a Family Hiking Trip (Meathead Edition)

WHY IN THE WORLD DID RENTAROU JUST DO THE SAME DATE AGAIN WITH DIFFERENT GIRLS!?

Surprised it took this long for Kishika and Iku to spend time together.

And finally someone gets the idea of "LET'S SAVE OURSELVES!"

This isn't giving up, Iku, this is just Kishika thinking on her toes.

Um...her chivalry usually involves hurting her butt.

And hey, Kishika has to have some strength with her kendo ability.

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

And...they did it.

They really need to do this more often.

Hey Rentarou...you're not needed anymore...the chapter's over too so...er, anyone seen Yaku?

Review ("newtimer version"): Another DL chapter; not as good as most but it did pick up at the end I suppose.

Serious Version (My Current Thoughts):  >!As said above so...let's dig in anyway:!<

>!Best: Torn between Suu/Mei or the finale with Iku/Kishika. Probably the latter but I'll get more into why later.!<

>!Funniest: Another one I'm torn about: do I go with Uncle Hiro abuse by Eira or more "baiting" about how Meme feels about Mimimi? Eh, I think the Mimimi/Meme one is a tad funnier; since Uncle Hiro gets beaten up by everyone and everything so it isn't as special as you want it to be.!<

>!Meatheads Unite!: Seriously after all the recent chapters of "Rentarou is the only one that can do anything for any of the girls and they're all helpless otherwise, I'm just happy we had that final entry with Kishika and Iku saving themselves. They're strong, they're capable, this should be the standard and not just "Rentarou makes them completely helpless and hopeless and they can't do anything unless he tells them to. That's not really how relationships should work, so it was a good sign that maybe they are capable. (yeah they both have their weaknesses but considering we had none of those in that segment, I still consider this a win.)!<

>!Parallel Timing: Something I'm surprised this manga hasn't done is "parallel timing" where two stories can happen at the same time; they probably tried something like that with the spa chapter and the hike chapter pre-Kishika but they didn't seem as simultaneous as you think. The bit with Mai being Hahari's servant for the day while Mei was elsewhere could have been perfect paralleling the one with Mei and Suu, but then Hahari just...shows up and it ruins that. It's another "close but no cigar" one I suppose.!<

Next Time: a heartwarming Meme/Tama and Meme/Kurumi double feature! (didn't we just get Meme in this chapter; and now she gets two stories in one? I guess someone really likes Meme.)

My Next Time:

Surprised it took this long for Tama to get a yarn-ball temptation.

While her B-day isn't known yet (and Hahari's the focus), let's also remember May 12th is also International Nurses Day, meaning until we know her birthday, guess who we also should celebrate today?
