Navigating tipping scenarios in the US
Hi, I'm visiting SF this week for a business trip. This is my first time in the US, I am from an Asian country. Could you please guide me on what to do / not do while in SF - specially around the tipping culture, as I don't want to come across as someone who is inconsiderate.
- I will be staying in a high-end 4 star hotel in Mission Bay area. Who all should be tipped at the hotel and how much?
- How much do I need to tip at restaurants?
- Do I need to tip for takeaways?
- Do I need to tip at coffee shops or is it only at restaurants where you go for lunch / dinner that you are expected to tip?
- Do I need to tip Uber drivers?
- What about stores like Apple, Best Buy, Super Markets - are tips expected there?
As you can see I'm pretty stressed about this tipping culture and don't want to make a faux pas while I am there!
Also, any general advise that you can share with a first time visitor would be very useful. Want to be on the right side of the law while I am there.
