What is going on with Coles radio?

Why are a lot of songs played at what seems like, 0.75x or 0.5x speed? I sometimes notice it sounds a bit slower than normal, but today I actually did a little experiment…

“Little L” by Jamiroquai played in store while I did a shop; I’m a bit of a fan of his music, so the song’s on my Spotify playlist, I hear it often enough to know the tempo… through Coles radio, it sounded very off key and significantly slower than usual!

Got back to my car and put Little L on through the stereo, sure enough, sounded perfect! Played at the correct speed, in tune etc.

Why do they do this? Makes the music sound like shit

ETA: Coles is the only place I notice this, other shops seem to play songs at the correct speed
