If someone copied your skincare routine exactly, would it work for them?
I was thinking about this the other day after I gave a friend a few basic skincare tips.
It made me realize something I hadn’t really stopped to think about before. If someone used my whole skincare routine, same products, same order, same consistency, I honestly don’t know if they’d get the same results.
A few years ago, I probably would’ve said yes right away. I used to think that if something worked for me, it would probably work for anyone with similar skin. But the more I’ve learned about skincare, the more I’ve seen how unpredictable it can be. Lifestyle, climate, stress, sleep, hormones, and genetics can all affect skin in ways a routine can’t fully control.
That doesn’t mean other people’s recommendations aren’t helpful. They are. I’ve learned a lot from hearing what worked for other people, and I’ve avoided plenty of mistakes that way too. I just don’t see recommendations as a promise anymore. They’re a starting point. My routine works for me because I’ve changed it over time, not because it’s the right routine for everyone.
That’s what makes skincare frustrating and interesting at the same time. Two people can do the exact same thing and get completely different results, and neither of them is necessarily doing it wrong. That’s probably why I care more now about figuring out what my own skin actually needs instead of trying to copy someone else’s results.
