¡Gracias!

My husband and I moved away from the USA and are now living in the country of his birth. We’re going to be just fine financially in the long term, but with the initial costs of moving, some larger unexpected dings to our savings during the process, and the many costs of starting our life here, we’re pretty tight at the moment. We moved in January, and will be settling into a long term home next month in May. My husband and I both, as well as our baby, have birthdays in May. I am hoping that some of our friends and family will be willing to purchase some items for us to help us start our lives here as gifts for a combination of our birthdays and housewarming.

Since the majority of our family and friends are still within the United States, if we were to do a housewarming party, it would have to be virtual. I recognize that people don’t want to give gifts without getting in anything in return. That’s kind of the whole point of parties, thank you notes, goodie bags/favors, etc. Having an almost one year-old baby at this point makes me cautious about hosting virtual events. I’m sure most people will want to see her, and if it lines up with when she would want to nap, that could go poorly. It’s also just hard to plan at this point as far as timing because we’re not sure when we’ll be out of our temporary housing into our permanent housing.

Any suggestions on how to make a live virtual event doable and enjoyable (since the point of housewarming is to get to see the new house) or how I could have a virtual “party” that is not live?
