Sony WH‑1000XM5 — Honest Review

I’ve seen a lot of hype around the XM5s, and after using them properly for a while, I get it. These things are ridiculous in the best way.

Sound:The first thing that hit me was how clean everything sounds. The bass isn’t that muddy, overblown stuff you get on cheaper headphones — it’s tight, punchy, and actually controlled. Vocals sit perfectly in the mix, and the soundstage is way wider than I expected from closed-back headphones. They somehow make even basic Spotify tracks feel more “expensive.”

Noise Cancelling:The ANC is honestly the part that shocked me. It doesn’t just mute background noise — it erases it. Buses, trains, people talking, air conditioners… gone. It’s the first time I’ve put on headphones and felt like the world genuinely switched off.

Comfort:They’re stupidly light. I can wear them for hours without that “headband dent” or ear pressure. The pads are soft, the clamp force is gentle, and they don’t cook your ears like some other ANC headphones do.

Features:Sony’s app is actually useful. The EQ works well, DSEE does make low-quality tracks sound cleaner, and the multipoint connection is smooth. The touch controls are responsive without being overly sensitive.

Build:They’re sleek, minimal, and feel premium without being flashy. The case is a bit big, but it’s solid.

The real takeaway:They’re not “just good for the price.” They’re genuinely one of those products where you put them on and immediately understand why people rave about them. They exceeded my expectations massively — especially coming from cheaper earbuds and older headphones.

If you’re on the fence: they’re worth it. Simple as that.
