Hi everyone,

I’m currently a MEXT PhD student in Japan, but I recently received a full-time job offer in the tech/data science field. I’m considering leaving the MEXT scholarship midway, switching to self-funded status, and continuing my PhD while working full-time in Japan.

Has anyone here ever done something similar?

Specifically, I’m curious about:

- Whether the university allowed continuing as a self-funded student

- Whether MEXT required repayment or had penalties

Would really appreciate hearing real experiences or advice from people who went through this. Thanks!

So actually i feel PhD environment not suitable for me and starting applying a job here. Then several weeks ago i got an offer from a company to work here and decide to withdraw from PhD.

Currently i'm starting my visa process but the immigration asking me about a letter that telling me will withdraw from university after spesific date.

So i just afraid if i'm telling the university i will withdraw from PhD program ASAP, they will revoke my student status immediately.

Since the visa process for worker here takes 2-3 months, there's a possibility a gap (no status) if im doing that.

Is it true?
