Getting a reply from instructors

Hello everyone,
I passed my first screening through the Iraq embassy recommendation track and I was told to apply to 2 universities of my choice. I contacted tsukuba and kyoto universities, but they are too slow in answering. It has been 2 weeks since I applied to kyoto and still they haven’t let me email the instructor.
As for tsukuba I have emailed the instructor around 2 weeks ago and after sending 2 follow up emails (each after a week) there is still no response from him.
Even the help team isnt replying to my email.

Is this normal or should I be worried?

Also after letting the embassy know they let me apply to Saitama University as well but I was told to wait until they review the documents. How long do they take usually until I am allowed to contact the instructors?

She didn't mention anything about MEXT tho.

MEXT University Recommendation for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Track at Science Tokyo

I have a supervisor at Institute of Science Tokyo who agreed to support my application for the Doctoral Program, Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Track, under the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences.

I checked the published application guidelines for this track. There is a self-funded exam route, and a MEXT Embassy Recommendation route. I could not find a published University Recommendation guideline for this general track. University Recommendation guidelines only exist for three named programs under this school, a dentistry program for India and ASEAN, an infectious disease data science program, and an interdisciplinary life science leader program. My case does not fall under any of these three.

I contacted the Yushima International Student Support Group about this. Their reply said the university-recommended MEXT scholarship starts accepting applications every fall, and they asked me to contact them again at the end of October for accurate information. They also said they are not sure of my exact field of study or supervisor, so they could not confirm details now. This did not answer my main question, whether University Recommendation is open to a general Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Track applicant with an individual supervisor, or only to the three named programs.

Has anyone here applied for MEXT University Recommendation at Science Tokyo through the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Track, without being part of one of the three named programs? Or does this track only offer Embassy Recommendation in practice, with University Recommendation slots going only to the named programs?

I plan to write to admissions again at the end of October as they suggested, but I want to ask here too in case someone has direct experience with this specific school and track.

Has everyone received acceptance/rejection from Waseda

Waseda is closing tomorrow for summer, has anyone yet received any response from them? Whether it’s rejection or acceptance?
Or students from past years, how long did you wait to get a response from Waseda? Or from any other university?

Was anyone asked to buy tickets to Japan?

I am from Uzbekistan and I was accepted to the PhD program in Tokyo through university recommendation. Due to personal reasons and things I was going through I submitted all my MEXT docs close to the deadline. I received an email from school saying that I have to buy plane tickets and send them with no explanations.

I was thinking is it because I submitted late? I still made it to the deadline and my flight should be end of september so I see no reason why they won’t buy me a ticket bc it’s literally the scholarships condition. Maybe I’ve missed something and the policies have changed?

Choosing a teacher and graduate program

MEXT PG Applicant waiting for result

Hello.

I am a MEXT Master's Research Applicant from India. I am applying through the Embassy Recommendation Route. I gave my interview with the embassy on the 16th of July. I have not received any intimation regarding the results.

Has anyone received the email regarding the results. There is no link on the website at the moment.

Should I already start applying for my Letter of Acceptance or should I wait for the results to be published before I apply

If anyone is aware of the process, please help.

Bringing my dog to Japan with a MEXT scholarship

Hi everyone! I’m from Chile and I’ll be going to Japan on a MEXT scholarship. I’d like to bring my medium-sized dog (around 12 kg), but I’m thinking of going first and bringing him over once I’m settled.

Has anyone here gone to Japan with a MEXT scholarship and had experience bringing a medium-sized dog? I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations about the process, pet-friendly housing, and bringing your dog over later

Wanting Guidance For MEXT ug scholarship and Eligibility

So, I had been researching MEXT for a while and currently I’m studying in the 11th grade and was looking to apply for MEXT
And then I heard that it requires 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-grade marksheets and certificates if I'm applying because, you know, the India board exam results are released very late. I had gotten 79.6% in boards and I'm on a good run in 11th but back in 9th due to personal mental health issues I was only able to score 66.17% while the marks were reduced drastically by the school for the reason that “students do not get overconfident in boards” this puts me in a very helpless situation I was wondering if i’m able to do MEXT if I can a score 90% in 11th or any other criteria? Also can anyone recommend of any other ways to go study in Japan
I'm from INDIA

[Embassy route 2027] Rejected for LoPA Following the Interview

I recently had an interview with one of the professors from Tohoku, but I got the rejection mail today. Now, I am really scared whether I will get the LoPA or not.

I have another interview lined up and I don't know whether I will be able to perform well. If I get rejected there as well, I don't even know if I can apply for more than two times before the deadline.

To make it worse, on impulse, I applied to another university and missed uploading certain documents lmao. Now I have to wait for them to reject it or respond to my inquiry mail.

Considering how long it takes for the university central system for LoPA processing, the whole thing seems very shaky for me.

I understand this is part of the application process, but it's still frustrating. Also, sorry for the rant lol.

And, to all the MEXT applicants of this year, wish you all the best.

頑張れ皆。上手く行くように。。。

Edit: India - Research Student

Hey ppl this is what I wrote as the answer for the question why japan in the form it's just an prototype answer (I'll enhance the answer as the time goes by

My interest in AI comes from wanting to understand how systems like Gemini and GPT actually work—from large-scale data training to API implementation. Rather than just using these tools, I want to learn how to build, optimize, and refine them.

What draws me to Japan is the concept of Shokunin—a disciplined commitment to mastering a craft. This mirrors how I learn. To fund my first PC build, I independently earned the money through digital artwork, app testing, and small online projects. I then sourced every component, assembled the hardware, installed the OS, and troubleshot every system error myself through trial and error.

That hands-on experience proved that I want to understand technology at its core, not just consume it. I want to bring this disciplined mindset to Japan to study computer science and build resilient, scalable AI systems.

Does this sound like it's written by ai (it's my own research) what should I improve

Plz help ppl

How important is your university GPA/transcript for the MEXT Graduate Scholarship?

Hey everyone! I'm new to Reddit, and I actually only joined because of this community.

I'm a student from Brazil, and I was wondering about the MEXT scholarship for graduate studies. Does your university transcript need to be nearly perfect to have a good chance of getting the scholarship, or is academic performance not that strictly evaluated?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have applied or received the MEXT scholarship. Thanks!

Got LOA but fear of rejection

Iam a mext applicant from Nepal. I recently got letter of acceptance from a professor for MEXT uni recommendation. I have been kind of overconfident that my 74% will eventually be eligible for MEXT criteria but now that convert it using ai it shows less than 2 gpa. What should i do? My professor haven’t looked into my marks yet. What r the chances of getting accepted even with low gpa? Have anyone gone through this? Or should i give up from mext?

Tips and advice for Masters

Good Day! I am currently a second year BS Physics student in UP Diliman, I plan to take my Masters abroad and hopefully transition to full time work there.

  1. May I have any suggestions for schools or scholarship programs. My target field is aerospace science!

  2. I also would like to ask for tips on how to make my application solid for higher chances of passing. Right now I am trying to bring my gwa up and deepen my knowledge on my course.

  3. I would also like to ask if there is any suggested tracks other than aerospace science that I can take.

Any comment will be appreciated. Thank yo so much!

Dependent Visa (Bank Statement)

Hello, I would like to know how much money (the minimum) is recommended for the dependent visa to be approved? I have enough savings—I suppose—to live a good life for 3 years with my wife in Japan, but I would like to know if anyone knows an approximate amount or if somebody knows any information regarding this topic.

Thank you.

Inquiry about MEXT University Recommendation (Kyoto University) for 2027 intake

Hey everyone!

I am an indian candidate.

I’m looking into the MEXT University Recommendation route for a Master’s at Kyoto University, specifically the Specialized Course / MEXT Special Selection.

I’m already in contact with a professor who seems interested in having me join his lab. I already had an online meeting with him, and it seemed positive, so I wanted to understand what happens next.

For anyone who has gone through this process:

  • What should I expect from the professor next, as he has currently asked me for a draft of my research interests and sent me some of his lab's research-themed base research papers? Does he nominate/recommend me internally?
  • What’s the overall application process and timeline?
  • How does the non-degree/research student period work? Is it mandatory, or can you directly enter the Master’s program?
  • If you start as a non-degree student, when do you take the entrance exam for the Master’s?
  • How competitive is the selection realistically if you already have a professor willing to take you?
  • How does the university screening vs. MEXT screening work?

Would really appreciate any first-hand experiences, especially from people who went through Kyoto University’s Specialized Course/MEXT Special Selection.

Thanks!
