He is a domestic abuser with a track record of hate speech. He has no place at this convention, just like Mike Tyson had no place last year. Why platform a rapist? This sends a terrible message to people and is completely tone deaf.

Holy crap. Okay, I won't lie, I honestly thought he was John Hurt at first, but then I read the credits and I realized he was someone I had never heard of before. His performance in this role made me hate his character so much, which shows you how good he was. Honestly, he never tips the hand, never breaks, Greer has ice water in his veins. They should have cast him as an older Smiley in an adapation of one of the later John Le Carre books. He just oozes Cold War unprincipled former MI-6 slippery spy-ness.
The way he talks to Shaw in 6, 741 and is absolutely cool as a cucumber while he sits tied up.
"We are ALL irrelevant" indeed.
The way he articles his philosify concerning Samaritan is just so logical, reasonable... and completely evil. I am sure there are definitely people who would be true believers to his cause today and it is absolutely chilling.

I love this series, but could someone explain something to me? Why are all the people in power from Northern Lights, to Control, to Decima, to those working for Samaritan so absolutely terrified of anyone finding out that they are getting information targeting dangerous people from an AI? even operatives aren't allowed to find out they are getting their kill orders from an AI, only being told they are being given targets from some mysterious "research" department.
The intelligence department goes so far as to try to kill everyone who worked on the Machine so they can hide all evidence of existence from the public.
This never made sense to me because
If you kill everyone who worked on the project, all the engineers and computer scientists and everyone who knows the Machine's code, how are you going to repair the Machine when it breaks down in some way? Then you've paid for this hugely expensive thing for nothing because you can't repair it, even if the fix is some easy, super cheap thing.
If the public found out that a powerful Machine was helping the government target terrorists in their midst they would do what exactly? I mean we know that now and nobody cares as long as they have a job and a enough to eat and it doesn't effect their families no one does anything. The American government is rounding up and imprisoning thousands of people on a day to day basis right now, including slapping ankle bracelets on 300,000 Haitian asylum seekers this very moment and the public is barely making a peep. In the show they act like people will be out with the guillotines the moment the public finds out about the AI.
Now we know we are all being watched and nobody cares as long as they get theirs.
I kind of wish Americans reacted more along the lines of how the show's producers thought they would.
Ages ago I read this amazing Rumbelle fanfiction. I can't remember if it was on A03 or Fanfiction.net. It was very John Le Carresque and involved Gold being a former secret agent (MI6?) who had been invalided out of the service. He is now running an antique shop and is bitter that he was held hostage, tortured and abandoned in his time in the service. I toink Belle was a witness to something or a new initiate into the spyworld at the beginning of the story. She is going after Regina who was trying to defect from the mafia her father ran or something like that. Gold was the expert in that branch of the mob, so they have him coach Belle. They bring him back into the spy service and the two of them have to go undercover as a married couple I think. I believe Jefferson might have been their handler. Anyone know where I can find this story?
