Shiny!!!

My Juzear Nebula just arrived, the holographic reflection is so peak! This is like pure eye candy purchase and audio quality second. Will give my thoughts but first admire that faceplate + pure white flare cable! 🤩

Also, Juzear packages the set with cable and eartips already installed, at least that prevents me from KBear KB08 Miraging this set as well (lol)

Moondrop Pudding, Short Impressions

Holy heck, demo'd a pair and bought them from my 2 minutes impressions for 40 USD. The main thing i was focused on was the ANC and transparency and dare I say, absolutely huge improvement compared to the space travel lineup (Without PEQ. With PEQ the 2 sets can be pretty well done)

Accessories

Nice little stamp card of the pudding (lazy to get the box rn so google the image I guess), 3 sets of almost Liquid Silicone eartips that come in SML sizes (M installed stock), and a short USB-A to USB-C cable. THATS IT! The tips are an improvement compared to the moca and space travels for the price?

FIT

I initially think the stock eartips that come with these are pretty good, but the eartips that follow the traditional AET07 shape I do not find to fit well, as it introduces a need for deeper insertion depth. These chonkers have a geometrically weird shape for my inner ear where if pressed too deep, will start to hurt my concha even when I find the niche and very bad fitting Yu9 Que pretty comfy.

Side profile of ST1+2 and Yu9 Que compared with the puddings on slide 2/3 for reference.

I ended up pairing the HE Sonic Galaxy M sizes on these as they basically work like a Large tip in terms of width, but give me the depth of M tips. This mitigates my concha fitment issues.

Earbud things (ANC, Battery)

gonna keep this part short since I am IEM first usually so I dont really give a shit about good ANC.

The ANC is leagues better than the Space Travel 1/2 (they perform the same). Transparency also is an improvement, but not as much compared to the ANC. The natural seal of these might even be considerably better than the space travel, which makes even with ANC OFF have quite good passive isolation.

Gotta say that for the battery life they advertise, gets me through the workday with spare battery for the train commute with ANC on. With LHDC on, they seem to get about the same battery time as the Space Travel 2 with AAC (Both in this cases have ANC on)

Sound Impressions

They really sound JM1-ey. Bass is pretty pronounced, with a decent sounding midrange and maybe a tad weird sounding treble. Comparing these with truthear pures, Truthear Pures sound warmer but somehow more \*correct\*. Let's say its a less warm pure in that sense. Their treble would kinda almost be pretty detailed like the Daybreaks as well, but they fall a bit short. I'd say the Bass and Treble regions are sorta an in-between of the Pure and Daybreak (Daybreak treble is well done but everything else is really damn clinical imho).

UPDATE: The insertion depth as Axel from ATechReviews mentioned in his review video here is VERY important for making these sound good. I cannot just put these in my ear and have just a seal. This makes the set sound really shouty and lackluster (almost like the Moondrop SSP/SSR). Deep fit will make them actually sound the way they are intended.

PEQ Suggestion

The 10 Band PEQ on these comes in pretty handy cause I think that this is ALMOST a good bud stock. But there are some caveats, with one that currently bothers me.

With a quick look at the stock tuning on graphs reads as having a peak at 3k with a very slow drop downwards until 8k, so it has a pronounced 5-7k. This is very similar to the effect seen in the Aful lineups like the 5+2 to compare, and it really emphasises cymbals and in a way — sibilance, a tad bit. This gives the same effect wise with more details but sounding a bit artificial. Take Natori - Mabel, the cymbals in this track is very pronounced, which affects how the song sounds to me quite a bit, making everything else feel recessed. Though it is funny how this doesnt affect me at all when implemented with the Performer 5+2. Goes to show maybe graphs aint everything.

My current quick suggestion to tame this is with a -5db Peak filter @ 6khz:2.8Q, this cleans up the artificial sound to make it great enough with just one filter.

One thing of note as well, apparently the Bass shelf on these are lessened when they are in ANC ON or Transparency. I tested these most of the time with these modes and find the reduced bass actually being more pleasant. The ANC Off might be too boomy, but I like it too since it's like how I hear the Yu9 Que bass LMAO

Extra Notes (Caveats outside of sound)

I have seen some posts on earbuds or here (i forgot) about how the buds do not charge all the way to 100%, you need to adjust them by taking them out of the case, then putting them back in sometimes. After my first case of this happening, it seemed to go away on it's own. So please try this before you blame QC bug and spontaneously return them, though i understand the frustration

  1. Yes, the damn light is always on. I don't know how much this adds to the battery drain but it sure makes you stand out during the night. Might cut out some yellowish vinyl to block this stupid thing.
  2. The instruction manual advertises a firmware update to add the toggle to switch between the Default Minimalistic prompts for Connect, Disconnect, ANC OFF, ANC ON, TRANSPARENCY and Game mode. There seems to be no firmware update up to today though, so it's still on version 3.2.6 for my pair. No waifu voice for now.

EDIT: formatting issues and I am on mobile and cannot be assed to format again

Got my openheart cables for around 15 USD a pop in their official store. They took 1 week to arrive and can I say I absolutely love the build and colourways in person!

Got them cause my original Pure cable was stiffening and yellowing like mad, and my Aful Performer 5+2 needed a 3.5mm cable (I bought the 4.4mm termination and do not hear a difference).

They are quite stiff though, wish it had a loose and soft braid like the OG Aful Performer 5+2 cable which is still heavenly (the L R indicators strip off so easily though, so I basically will not be able to tell between right left and right)
