Measuring magnetic field from portable air con unit

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone in this community has an EMF measuring device - and if so, if you have ever measured the magnetic field generated by a portable air con unit? I've been thinking about it as I have been running one on hot days recently (I'm in London, UK) and its quite close to my bed.

I'll probably end up buying my own EMF device to do this, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has already done this? And if so, how far away from it should I try to sleep in order to be safe? (The power rating is 1005 Watts.) Thank you for any thoughts!

Can I move a fuse board out of a wardrobe?

I've seen a flat i'm interested in buying but the fuse board is in the built-in wardrobe in the bedroom. I've read that this could be a fire risk because I would be storing clothes nearby (about 40cm below, not right next to the fuse board though). I asked a very helpful electrician for advice and he suggested that upgrading the fuse board, to ensure it is metal and has the latest RCD, will mean that it is safe.

However, I wanted to know if moving the fuse board out of the wardrobe would be safer still. He said because this would still require a junction box in the wardrobe, it wouldn't actually be any safer. And I'd really like to know if others agree with this view?

I'd also be really interested to know if there is any other way to move the fuse board? Am I effectively looking at a full rewire at that point? Any advice v welcome!

A bigger flat in the same development is on at the same price

I have recently had an offer accepted on a one-bed flat in a nice development. Which is great, and I have arranged my mortgage and had a survey. I asked the seller to do a deed of variation to remove the ground rent, which had a problematic escalation period, and he agreed. And I believe this is now underway - though I have had very few updates so far (and its been 6 weeks now.)

However, a two-bed flat in the same development has just been reduced to only £5k more than I have offered. It is 20 square meters bigger! But otherwise quite similar, possibly in better condition - and it already has zero ground rent. It does have a higher service charge (about £50 pcm higher) and is a higher council tax band (band E rather than band D.) I can probably still afford this though.

Annoyingly its on with the same estate agent, as otherwise I would definitely go and have a look. But should I raise it with the estate agent and ask them what is going on? I do still like the original flat but a very worried now that I am overpaying?

Installed smoke alarms into ceiling

I recently had 2 smoke alarms installed by a handyman in the ceiling of the flat I rent. (My landlord said fine and wasn’t that interested.) He used a drill and drilled several holes as the ceiling seemed very thin and it took a while to find a good place.

I’m now wondering if there could be asbestos in the ceiling and if I should be worried. It’s a Victorian building but was converted into flats in 1973. I’m top floor and just have the loft above. So maybe wouldn’t have been touched as part of the conversion?

There is a ‘lumpy’ finish to the ceiling though. Could perhaps be a popcorn ceiling that has subsequently been skimmed over? There was some dust after the drilling and I just wiped it up. But now feel quite anxious! Any thoughts much appreciated!
